Someone over in the request a recipe forum was asking about nougat cookies. I have some recipes for her, but they call for an ingredient I am unfamiliar with - namely, the nougat itself. In Germany, you can buy premade nougat like you would buy a tube of marzipan. I know people make nougat candies, but can one buy nougat as an ingredient in America?

I have not seen it for sale in the supermarket in my area (upstate NY), but I haven't checked the speciality stores either. I usually make the nougat "from scratch", and then proceed with the recipe from there.
