Hi everyone! Great to see a Benelux section now at Zaar! Been here since 2003 and love scanning and trying recipes!
I am American, been here in Belgium 6+years now so if I can help in anyway, give me a shout! I collected recipe books most of my adult life and now with the language under my belt, have started a collection of the Flemish ones too, so if there's any recipe you need or would like to try, post it here!!

I'm an American and have lived in the southern part of Holland for close to 5 years now - where in Belgium do you live? How do you like it there?

Hey Carla! Ik ben blij om een andere Amerikaanse te zien!!!LOL I'm here in Ninove, about 30minutes from Brussels. I consider Belgium actually home now and the states are vacation! Things there have changed so much in the last 6 years its always nice to come back to Belgium. When I do go on vacation, I always have an empty case going and a full one coming back.
I stock up on spices, things like Mesquite, Liquid Smoke, Lemon Pepper, Ranch Dressing Mix, and Wally World has some great Mesquite Marinade in packets that are a great success at my BBQs!
I have managed to find ingredients or alternatives for most American recipes here, and there is a great authentic American Grocery Store in Wilrijk, just south of Antwerpen. He gets in 4 containers a year of american products, so if you get to really hankerin' for Oreos or Froot Loops, or just about any "normal"food, he has it there. I have had so much fun making Dirt Cake from a recipe here off Zaar. It uses Oreos and pudding and whipped cream, made in a flower pot. Ha!!! I stick an artificial flower in it and go to the local cafe and sit there eating the "dirt" until curiosity gets the best of them, then we share the flower pot with everyone! You should try it with the locals sometimes!!!!
