Hello all! I am a fairly new cook and I have never used a crockpot. My mom gave me one a year and a half ago but I have not used it yet. It has been suggested to me that crockpot cooking may be a good idea for me now that it is summer and I have a very small, closed in kitchen that heats up hotter than the oven! Any tips for a new crockpot cooker? How about some first timer recipes? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The thing about most crockpot recipes that I found personally, is that they are all very simple ones. The cp is a girls best friend when she works, or when it is is summer time and you do not want to cook.

In order to get your feet wet and truly appreciate a crockpot, try throwing an inexpensive chuck roast, whole or cut into chunks, browned or not, into the pot and pour over your favorite bottled BBQ sauce, set on low and cook for 8 to 10 hours. Cool, refrigerate, skim off fat, shred meat, reheat and serve on Kaiser rolls. Particularly nice if you can do this on your patio with an extension cord. And then, of course, there's some coleslaw and/or potato salad recommended. Can do the same thing with chicken or inexpensive pork cuts.
Happy crockpot cooking!
