Are you more lenient when your kids are sick?

Just wondering, as I have been home with sick kids this week. My 3 year old had a full blown case of the flu (with fevers over 103 for 6 days!) and my 5 year old has had a bit of it. He didn't get it as badly as she did. I find myself, when they are sick, allowing things I wouldn't normally allow like popsicles for breakfast. Am I the only one who does this? icon_smile.gif

No WAY! When my little ones are sick they can pretty much eat whatever they desire....within reason. I limit dairy when they have stomach/mucous problems and no candy. If they have fevers they can have popcicles 24/7 altho I have been known to make them out of pedialyte or gatorade.

I figure if they're so sick, and off food and fluids, any little bit helps. I also let them have small amounts of soda for tummy upsets flat 7-up or a glass of regular fizzy coke if it's an indigestion type thing, nothing better for that!

Dont feel like a bad mom, I think pretty much all of us are a little more lenient with little ones!

    Hope they get better soon!

Edited to add: This does prove for a more diffcult transition back to "okay" foods once they are better! DD has been known to say "but you let me have it YESTERDAY!!"

I do. When Jordan is sick and he asks for something to eat, whatever it is, he gets it. icon_smile.gif

LOL, Ladypit...when my kiddos have fevers or general icks, they not only like popsicles in the morning, they like them in the tub! icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif

Of course, the three yr old has figured she needs to try this during healthy times, too..."Mommy, can I have a popsicle?" "No, it's 10am." ...pause..."Mommy, can I have a bath?" icon_twisted.gif

I'm also more lenient with them when I'm sick (grouchier maybe, lol, but more lenient on foods, videos, etc). They've seen a lot of videos with this last pregnancy. icon_redface.gif Ah well....PBS, the Public Babysitting Service, right? icon_redface.gif icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

I think you pretty much have to let them eat whatever. Popsicles/slurpees for all 3 meals if necessary to keep them hydrated. Mine generally have NO appetite when they are sick, so I'm thrilled if they lick a popsicle or take a sip of orange soda...even if it's 7 am.

Of course!! I think it's natural, you want to please and make your kids feel better!

We DO NOT Drink soda as a rule, but the exception is sickness... but, it's only diet 7up or diet ginger ale for that 'tummy ache.'

I will cater to my boys (DH and DS) when they're sick, but when I'm sick, whoa!! Thank HEAVENS I make and freeze soup in serving sizes for me, b/c no one cooks for me when I'm sick!
