    Fruit Soup

    My MIL sent home a German fruit soup with us this weekend. The problem is - I don't know what type of meal to serve it with. I can't ask her because she wouldn't know, she just made it because it's German and her parents were German Russians. Can anyone help me?

    To my knowledge it is always served as a dessert, nowadays usually chilled, and can be served with macaroons or biscotti or another hard dry cookie to crumble over it. In my grandmother's time it was often served warm.
    So you can serve it with any meal, only I would not combine it with anything soupy, like stew or chili icon_smile.gif How about some pork chops, potatoes and some vegetable. That is a typical german everyday meal.

    I would also even eat it as a late breakfast/lunch dish. I think it tastes lovely with some cheese on the side.

    When I was little, I remember my mother serving it warm with small dumplings in it. The fruit and the dumplings complimented each other. RoseV

    DH says that it already has dumplings in it so I guess we'll try it warm. Thanks.

    My Swedish relatives always had it for breakfast. No dumplings.

    My German grandmother made her fruit soup with dumplings and bacon (?) in it for flavoring. She served it warm at suppertime. It was wonderful!
