    Duplicate recipes?

Do you check for duplicate recipes? I've got some recipes that were sent to me from various companies, but maybe they've already been posted. I've tried searching, but sometimes come up with over 400 recipes.

Mirjam, I think this will likely always be a problem at a site like this. For example, I could post a "Chocolate Cake" recipe, you could post "Excellent Chocolate Cake", someone else could post "Mom's Chocolate Cake" and for all we know, we're all posting the same recipe that we found in a Hershey's magazine ad 10 years ago.

And then, someone else could post "Mom's Chocolate Cake" that was completely different, so even duplicate names don't mean duplicate recipes.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. If the Recipezaar folks have any ideas on this, I too would love to hear them.

We don't currently detect duplicates because it is somewhat difficult to do (as you have mentioned). However, what makes Recipezaar different (if you haven't already noticed;), is that it understands what is in the recipe, so it can detect recipes that are the same even if titles are different or the ingredients are in different order.

Having said that, we are working on a method to detect differences between recipes not only so that we filter out duplicates, but so we can show you the differences between recipes... how many times have you said "hmmm.... what's the difference between these 3 chocolate cake recipes?". Wouldn't it be nice if Recipezaar told you exactly what the differences are?

As usual, you guys notice the need for something faster than we can build this stuff. icon_smile.gif But it's what makes this so much fun for us!
