Falafel is a deep fried ball or patty that is made from chickpeas or fava beans and spices. It is a vegetarian food, and is considered to be a fast food, many times offered by street vendors.

Falafel is served with many types of sauces, including tahini or a falafel hot sauce. It can be served alone, or as in a falafel pita sandwich.

    Super Quick Falafel!

When falafel is made the traditional way, is indeed a vegan food; it’s a great source of protein for people who have cut meat out of their diet. It’s relatively low in fat and has no cholesterol if you fry it in heart-healthy grapeseed oil. And if you top it with veggies in a pita, it becomes a filling and nourishing meal! Sure beats a Big Mac, if you ask me.

I regret to say that I am not a big fan of falafel. Maybe it's just that I've never had one that was made right--they always seemed dry to me.

I've saved this recipe and mean to try it - it is a bit different in that you use soaked but not cooked chickpeas - Falafel
