Got some unusual fruit yesterday. A Vietnamese woman gave one of my students light green, almost pear shaped fruit that she grows in her yard. She also gave her some salt with chili peppers in it to be eaten with the fruit. These fruits remind me of an Asian pear but with bumps. The insiude flesh is creamy white and very bland tasting. The skin is rather bitter. Any thoughts on this?

    Is this it?

If it is, it's a chayote/cho cho/christophene/chu chu/choko/mirliton/merleton/vegetable pear/pear squash. There are a great many recipes for it in the db.

THanks all! I thought it might be chayote but finally figured it out to be guava. The seeds told me it was a guava.
