I am making a rack of lamb for the first time on Sunday. I have no idea what to make as side dishes because I have NEVER made lamb before? Please help?

Lamb is traditionally a springtime meat, even though it's now available year-round, so springtime produce like asparagus, spinach (spinach salad with strawberries is popular now), peas, radishes (delicious sauteed), and the like work well with it. New potatoes with chive butter. Something strawberry for dessert, maybe. All that's very traditional, but almost anything would work. Rice pilaf, couscous, potatoes dauphinoise baked with cream and garlic, a good old baked potato, quinoa. Green beans, carrots, zucchini, cauliflower. Eggplant works well with lamb, too. A lemon mousse would also be a good dessert.

Traditionally I like roasted vegetables; asparagus, roasted baby reds, green beans. Mint herbs, rosemary, lemon etc.

But, I really find it is important to know what flavors you are using on your lamb; and then pair that with your sides.

Also, are you serving a salad, appetizer, bread/rolls, etc.

Thank you so much for all the responses. Wanted to make a potato dish of some sort a veg and bisquits. I bought fresh broccoli crowns to steam with garlic and lemon. As far as a starch, what would go best? A rice dish, mashed potatoes sweet potatoes, mac and cheese? I am a rookie here!

Personally I would love some roasted potatoes. The broccoli sounds very nice. Roasted potatoes are very easy to prepare too.

I wouldn't like Mac and cheese, and rice is OK; but for me spuds.

This is basically how I make mine. You can make these; transfer to a dish and cover with foil to keep warm.
Cook the lamb, and pop them back in the oven the last 10 minutes as the lamb cooks to warm up. They are very forgiving, and tasty.

Mashed potatoes are good as well, but I vote for the roasted.

Would like to thank all the chefs that responded to my post! Dinner was awesome! Made Herbed Rack of Lamb receipe #12847 and used the advice of a chef that suggested Greek Potatoes receipe #87782. Also make stuffed mushrooms and steamed broccoli with lemon and garlic. The one thing I would change is roasting the lamb for 20 min instead of 15 because it was a little too rare. Thank you again everybody! Will def make lamb again! icon_biggrin.gif
