I need to find alternatives for all forms of 'milk' in my recipes. My daughter is allergic to both cow's milk and goat's milk as well as rice ... makes baking somewhat tricky to say the least.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could replace buttermilk with, for example???

Gee Donna, I think it's the 1st time I hear of someone allergic to rice. That's unusual. I suppose you don't have too many problems avoiding rice in her diet.

For milk you could use coconut milk, if that's okay for her.

Buttermilk ... Of course you cannot use yoghurt either, can you? I know it's dairy, but some allergic kids are okay with yoghurt.

I cannot offhand think of a good non-dairy sub for buttermilk. Maybe if you use coconut milk and "acidify" it with a little lemon juice?

I have a list of ingredients that are derived from milk and I have to check ingredients on EVERYTHING that I buy to make sure that those ingredients are NOT in the ingredients list on everything that she eats or drinks.

As for milk substitutes, I've tried them all and the only one that she'll drink is the "SO GOOD, OMEGA" soy milk in the purple carton.

But I was sondering if I'd be able to do the vinegar thing with the soy milk .....

Zurie, I am allergic to white rice but not brown for some reason. I just avoid it and go on.
