It probably won't happen this year. Hopefully 1st quarter 2013 but as you should know from working in IT, things can come up and get moved. That's why we don't want to give a date. So all I can give you is a general timeframe.

App for this site is a must. Be sure to post to increase demand!

If you don't want to invest into a smartphone like the iPhone, I recommend the iPod touch to use cooking apps. it's really handy to use in the kitchen for the recipes, lists for the grocery store... and plus, by going paperless, you save trees!

Someone recommended The Paprika app to sync with any food blog site, including this one. Giving it a try.

Thanks for the info regarding the Paprika app. I will check it out. I have been a member of this site for a LONG time, and I am still surprised when there is long, LONG wait to get things that other sites have done for a long time. It sounds like we may never see a good app interface if they cannot even tell us within a year!

I often wonder if the users / customers are ever polled to ask what WE want. I would love to see a survey or something put out to ask US tell the FOOD.Com folks what they should be workin on. You know, "supply and demand" and that sort of stuff. I get scared when I think that they are deciding what we want / need in a vacuum. It is disappointing when we are not even asked. Sigh.......

You're probably right that they won't come out with an app interface. They're at least 5 years behind after seeing numerous requests in other forum postings. The CEO, advertisers and people supporting food.com are obviously not paying attention, making for a poor business. I find that pretty embarrassing, to be honest. If they can get a mobile site up, it would make a huge difference... there's no excuse for it, really... their web programmer can code a mobile site within a week.

Anyway, I tested Paprika and it's a really nice app. But because food.com doesn't even have a mobile site, it makes browsing a headache. If you have patience and can get past the sucky browser, adding recipes to the app works like a charm. The super nice feature about it is that once you add a recipe, it organizes it beautifully by ingredients and preparation. You can add the ingredients to the shopping list and it even categorizes automatically by produce, spices, etc... pretty cool!

If food.com ever joins the 21st century by coming out with an app, I'd probably buy it.

I just registered today and I'm shocked to find that there is no app. Food.com seems awfully late to the game in that regard.

Maybe they just need more / or better programmers? I think that there are a lot of talented folks out of work. Seems like they could get this done if they wanted to, huh?

I agree wholeheartedly. They could have an app out In less than a month if they made it a priority. If they can do it in house, farm it out to somebody who could get it done. I would be very interested to know just what their programmers are working on do diligently that keeps them from getting an app out until 2013. If they don't get on the ball 2013 may find them keeping company with MySpace.

No, there is not an app OR they have not announced it. INSTEAD, they do stuff we don't want.....like MOVING Cookbooks and Menus to a "sub menu" in the upper right by our individual icon! AND, then they have the audacity defend that inane decision by saying "it is the same number of clicks" YEA, but without an app it is a NIGHTMARE to try and use it on your smart phone. Ever try to easily use that drop down menu in the grocery store? It practically takes a straightpin to get something small emough to get to the darn thing. SO, it all comes back to the insanity of not having an app. I thnk that my cats left alone, and with the right priority, could have developed this. Can NO ONE there manage a software deveopment project? I have, and this is outrageous. I would have fired someone by this time. Perhaps they should sub it out to a few of us who know what we are doing, huh? They won't even commit to a date! Must be a cushy job if no one is required to work with any type of deadline. Someone who cannot deliver when assigned something is fired in the real world!

ANY WORD guys? Target date.....ANY kind of hope? Even you must thing this is ridiculous.

Last year, I was told first quarter of this year. Well, that brings us to the end of next week. Ready yet? Well, it is the first quarter and it is just about over. So where is it? If it is ready, I have not seen the announcement. Pehaps I missed it? Who runs a software project without a due date? Waiting for this has become beyond ridiculous. I have been asking for well over a year if you look at my other posts in this topic and there are never any changes to the responses..

It is compounded by your format changes a few months ago. I am still extremely displeased that the new and improved software update some time ago, moved Cookbooks and Menus a poor spot. I cannot EASILY get to My Cookbooks and My Menus directly on the front of the screen with larger buttons! Yes, sure, I am told OVER and OVER again "it is the same number of clicks" but it is the LOCATION that is the problem.

Have you ever been in he grocery story and needed to look something up on your iphone? Try to EASILY get to that tiny little dropdown box on the top right next to my name etc. and then try to easily go across to My Cookbooks or My Menus columns, and then scroll through them etc. etc. It makes me angrier and angrier each time that I try and do it. Folks do not take their laptops to the grocery story. No one seems to understand how we use this site. Please, please give us the app we have been promised forever, and in the interim, put the My Cookbooks and My Menus in a place where your customers can get to them easily. We did not need a whole new "Happy Easter" front page. The "creative juices" of those folks should be working on the app! I think it has now been about 2 years since we have been asking and still me get nothing.......except other changes that we did not ask for. By the way, I do not recall ever seeing a request for customers to give their input on an app and what our preferences are. Perhaps I missed that.

We are always told that an app will be ready soon and that we will be happy with it. BUT, no one seems to ever have a due date. I feel like no one has ever run a software project before. this has become beyond belief that no one knows when things will happen other that generalities.....and even those do not come to fruition. In contrast, TiVo has done 3 upgrades just in the last year for things that their customers wanted. I think that they have much more complex systems and yet they can to it. They even tell us in advance exactly when we will get things. and they meet their deadlines. Perhaps you can hire some or their folks to help get this done.

By the way, I read somewhere in another forum that" there is a mobile version but no app yet." Is this "mobile" version any different then just accessing it via your web site? If I check iphone apps it pops up Food.com, but when I go there it is exactly what I see here. What is the big deal about that. Am I missing something.? Bottom line is : when do we get the app!
