    Elbows With Chickpeas and Escarole
At what point are the chick peas and escarole combined? I have the same recipe in a cookbook with the same omission, so I have been "winging it", but I wonder if someone knows the answer.

It has to be in the last step. That tells you to combine the escarole with the macaroni, which you cooked in Step 6. The chickpeas are not mentioned, but logically they would also be mixed with the macaroni after it's cooked.
