    Birds Getting Your Berries?

Have you ever tried this bird control tip from Grow Food, Not Lawns? "Stones painted to look like berries will keep the birds out of your berry patch. After pecking a few of the hard painted stones, the bird will assume that all of the berries in the patch are hard as a rock and will seek its food elsewhere." What do you think of this idea?

I need rocks painted to look like seedlings, because the darned quail gobble up everything that sprouts like it's a birdie buffet. Even when we set up hoops an netting the reach in and chew things! All my broccoli transplants are gone because we didn't cover them promptly. Argh.
