    Steak Dinner with Company

    Dinner for company

    Chilled shrimp dip w/assorted crackers (recipe to be posted)
    Grilled steak, served w/my own red wine garlic steak sauce (a basic recipe with olive oil, red wine vinegar, herbs, garlic, onions)
    Honey gold potatoes in cream with herbs; and for the 2 who din't like cream, I used chicken broth (another recipe to be posted)
    Grilled romaine w/yellow tomato slices, home made croutons; and a home made balsamic dressing (however, one picked blue cheese, another ranch, and thousand island), so much for my home made dressing.

    Aren't these the cutest spuds. They are the size of grape tomatoes. Nothing more than heavy cream, fresh herbs, s/p. On the grill in a foil pan - just until thickened.

    I did a second pan with just the broth and herbs for the NON cream guests.

    As you can see, this is after every grabbed their pieces. I did have them all laid out really pretty. One of the reasons, I hate to take pics when I have company, lol.

    Your menu sounds absolutely great!! Love the potatoes in cream! And good on you, for getting 2 photos when some meat slices have already disappeared! icon_lol.gif

    And oh, how silly to grab the bottled dressings (I take it they were bottled!) and not using your home-made balsamic. Next time don't give them a choice!

    Picky guests annoy me. (Well, I'll stay sweet, but I will say "Grrrr ..." inside!) Why on earth not cream?? It's natural and quite healthy, and normally one does not have cream every day.

    Actually they were very good. The Mom and daughter have a rough time when they drink or eat anything with heavy cream. Not so much an allergy, but they try to avoid it whenever possible. They can have skim, but they can have heavy, but they try not too.

    So, it was legitiment, I couldn't say anything, I just did their potatoes in broth.

    And the dressing ... It was so funny. Now, I prefer to make my own; but I do keep 4 dressings (bottled on hand). Ranch, because I do like to dip some carrots in it now and then for a snack; I also like Thousand now and then, just for a change. Normally I make my own, especially when there is corned beef; but I do keep a bottle for me. Blue cheese, because I do have friends who ask for it. And last Balsamic Vinaigrette. It is my go to when I don't have my fresh version. Now, all are the Public brand (my grocery store) and admit, they are very good.

    So, I set my dressing out; and the one girl said, I don't mind this, but do you have Ranch? Then, Jim said; me too, but do you have blue cheese, etc ....I gave up.

    But the kids loved grilled romaine, loved the tomatoes, olives, even the onions. The red wine garlic steak sauce was like ketchup to them; I'm glad I made so much. I expected leftover shrimp dip. NO way. But my pretty plate ... IT WAS LIKE A FEEDING FRENZY! I set it down, turned around to get the camera, and boom - the steak was gone.

    All in all, great guests. They stayed the night; and early breakfast, and off to Busch Gardens.
