Some of you may know "Gabe the Hero Dog"... Gave was a retired MWD, living with his former handler Marine Sgt Charles (Chuck) Shuck. Gabe was voted Military Working Dog of the Year and then Hero Dog of the Year for 2012 by the AHA. He was a working dog in Afghanistan who save many, many lives by locating explosives and by giving comfort to the human soldiers around him. He continued to "work" after retirement by helping educate children about Military Working Dog and visiting wounded warriors etc. Gabe became ill very suddenly and Chuck was stunned to find that he had advanced cancer. He did not respond to initial treatment and began to suffer. Chuck made that agonizing decision. He had a video made in Gabe's memory. Grab some tissues and watch it here:
