Hi all!
My grocer used to carry the Bookbinders Cocktail Sauce and when I called their Customer Service phone number I was assured that they will carry it again. This was over a month ago and one fish monger told me they never carried it and to make my own!
I would love to buy it from the web site but I don't think I could eat through 12 jars that fast.
Does anyone have a comparable recipe? Theirs is high in horseradish.
Thanks!
Boz

I normally buy any ole cocktail sauce (Heinz, store brand) and doctor it up! I just add more prepared horseradish and a squeeze or two of fresh lemon juice. Also a few drops of hot sauce. Really freshens the sauce up. Worcestershire sauce can also be added. You can also start with ketchup or chili sauce if you have to. Just be sure to taste taste taste!

The database has 609 Cocktail Sauce Recipes for you to experiment with.
If you checked the Nutritional Information for Bookbinders Cocktail Sauce its main ingredient is SALT, 1010 mg worth for every 1/4 cup serving. Making your own with far less salt would definitely be healthier.

Here's what we always make at home.
Copycat Heinz Shrimp Cocktail Sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 Tbs A1 Steak Sauce
2 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbs Horseradish Sauce, cream style
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp red pepper hot sauce (Tabasco, Crystal, Frank's, etc)
1/4 tsp table salt
Mix well. Store in fridge.

The steak house I worked in just used ketchup, grated horseradish, and Worcestershire, mixed to taste.

It,s years late and I Think they're closed.....might be why you can buy a small jar of their sauce at my local dollar tree or general for a buck now.

No they are not closed. I got my local grocer to carry it. They bought a case and haven't since they sold the case. I either need to make my own or buy it elsewhere.

My walmart carries it; also, you can buy it online, at their store or Amazon. If you like it that much, that is what I would do. I personally like my own, but, if you like that, why not buy it.

Commercial products have lots of preservatives and you can never really re-create it.
But I add horseradish, lemon, worestershire, chili sauce, ketchup

Remolade sauce is very similar and also served as seafood cocktail sauce including horseradish. And these are excellent recipes, too:
