    BBQ Hamburgers (not made with BBQ sauce)

    This is what my friend told me. He just sent me what he makes based on what he thinks his Mom did.

    Patties:
    1 lb ground beef
    1 egg
    1/4 fresh bread crumbs (not dried)
    1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
    1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt, onion powder and garlic powder
    Pepper to taste
    Make the patties and refrigerate to firm up before pan searing them.

    Sauce:
    1/2 can tomato sauce (more, if you like more sauce)
    1 cup onion, quartered and thin sliced
    1 cup beef broth
    Olive oil to saute the onion
    2 tablespoons flour
    1 teaspoon dried parsley seasoning
    Salt
    Pepper
    Remove the patties once they are done as you make the sauce.
    Add in extra oil if needed, add in the onions and cook until slightly tender, then add in the flour and mix well to combine, cook another minute. Add in the broth and scrape up the bottom bits, then add in the tomato sauce and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer 5 minutes and then add in the patties and cook another 10-15 minutes.
    Done!

    I am from Buffalo and Polish, so I hope this is what you are looking for. This is what my Mom used to make (she called it BBQ Hamburgers- or Hamburgers in Red Sauce).
    Combine 1 lb ground beef, about 1/4 cup Quaker Oats Quick uncooked oatmeal (or bread crumbs), a few tablespoons of water or milk, a dash of salt, pepper, garlic powder. Mix and form rounded patties (about 5- 6 per pound of meat). Brown patties on both sides in a little oil. Make sauce with a bottle of ketchup and equal amount of water (use the empty ketchup bottle and fill with water and shake), 1/2-1 sliced onion, dash salt and pepper. (Optional: add 1 sliced or diced green pepper.) (If you have a Dutch oven pot or casserole pan, use it to brown burgers and then cover with sauce in the same pan so the drippings are incorporated in the sauce.) Cook burgers in sauce, in covered pot on the stove top at very low heat for a couple of hours, stirring occasionally, OR put covered pot in a 225 degree oven for 2 - 2-1/2 hours. Serve on hamburger buns.

    Thanks to everyone who responded. I haven't checked this thread in a while. I was able to find a local person who gave me a rough idea of the recipe. You basically make hamburgers with bread in them and fry them on a pan to brown them.

    Then you make a sauce with some tomato sauce and tomato soup and onions. Put the hamburgers in the sauce and let them cook while the onions cook in the sauce.

    Serve on rolls. They came out pretty good but not exactly like my mom's or the ones at the bingo hall. I just found the recipe provided as a link today and also did a search and came back here. I'm going to try the linked as a pdf as I think it's the closest to what I'm looking for and since it's a Buffalo Recipe, I bet it will be close.

    Polish Schnitzel - Sznycel is a traditional Polish main course. Polish Schnitzel is not what most of you think it is. icon_biggrin.gif Polish schnitzel is a mix of 3 ground meats with some other ingredients and spices which is breaded and fried. (or baked, if you like).

    Ingredients:
    1 lb Ground Meat (mix of veal+pork+beef is best)
    Onion (1 slice of a big Spanish one)
    Green Onions
    1 Egg
    2 tbsp Ketchup or Tomato Paste
    1/3 cup Bread Crumbs
    Salt, Pepper
    Bread Crumbs for breading
    Oil for frying
    Schnitzel is usually served with hot and cold side dish. I always eat it with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut salad.

Grandma and Pap just ate them plain, with a fork (sometimes dipped in ketchup), but our family likes to top these burgers with cheese and serve on a hamburger bun in a the traditional way.     Original recipe makes 4 Burgers



    1 pound ground beef


    1 small onion, diced


    1/2 green pepper, diced


    1 egg


    2 tablespoons ketchup


    1/4 teaspoon sea salt


    2 slices white bread, torn into small pieces


    cooking spray with olive oil


    Mix ground beef, onion, green pepper, egg, ketchup, and sea salt together in a bowl; mix in the white bread pieces until evenly distributed. Form the mixture into 4 patties.

    Spray a large skillet with olive oil cooking spray and set over medium heat. Cook the burgers until well-browned on the bottoms, about 10 minutes; flip the burgers and cook until the meat is no longer pink and the juices run clear, 8 to 10 more minutes.
