Many things are grown there, even tobacco. Could you be more specific about your requirements? And does harvesting wild things count as "grown in"? Are you looking for native foods?

Chicago is not a state. It's a city in the Midwest in the state of Illinois, almost a thousand miles from the Northeast. Virginia is in the east, but not the north, it's considered the south. I'm afraid we'd need more info to help you. What country are you in? What is the occasion you need the recipes for? Again, are you looking for native American foods?

Hi Blanca,
Here is this information about the seasonal produce fruits and vegetables grown in
Illinois - a Midwest State, New York State and New York City are Northeast or Mid-Atlantic, Virginia and West Virginia are South - Southeast States; so you can select the ingredient to make for a entreƩ, appetizer and dessert dish that you want:

The list of seasonal NYS fruits and vegetables in the link posted above is far from complete, but it does give you a fair idea of what is produced.
New York State grows most crops. Citrus fruits and artichokes are among the few crops not grown in NY.
Fruits and veggies - just about all of them.
Meat and poultry - NY raises them all....beef, pork, beefalo, bison, wild deer, wild moose, turkeys (wild and domestic), chicken, duck, goose, game birds (quail, phesant, etc).
Fish - most ocean and fresh water fish
NY is also a dairy state - milk, cheeses, and other dairy products (yogurt, etc) are made here.
NY is known for its apples, grapes, potatoes, maple syrup, and cheeses as well as many other products.
Entree - Long Island Duck

A lot of items except very tropical items were grown in the northeast states. New Jersey is the Garden State, growing food for New York and Philadelphia before refrigeration and long-distance transportation of foodstuffs.

That's why more info on the specifics would be very helpful.

The Browns' "America Cooks" is a 1940s cookbook with recipes organized by state. I picked up a copy at a library book sale, and several copies are on ebay now.
