I use IE 7. Cannot update yet, as I have Windows XP. There's nothing wrong (yet) with my PC or laptop, so I have no plans to spend money on updates. icon_cool.gif

My problem is that it takes AGES for the top lines above my icon photo to appear, in order to open a page:-

I.e. the tiny oblongs F= like -- 138k -- (twitter) Follow -- Pinterest ... take ages to load, especially the Facebook one, and the 138k one.

I realise my Internet speed is slow. I live in a tiny coastal village in South Africa. But the Web is wayyyy faster on all other websites!!! And things download immediately!

The slowness is especially annoying because I am a host, and sometimes need to open umpteen pages. Doing stuff like making a cookbook (now needed for a monthly Tag game) takes me -- literally -- weeks, as I do not have the time to sit here and wait for pages to open -- it takes hours to do a job like that.

Can anything be done about those little irritations above my picture??? icon_eek.gif

IMHO, those things above our icons are a total waste of space! I wouldn't have the patience to stay on this site if pages loaded as slowly as you say! I know you are used to using IE, but have you tried using Firefox to see if your pages load faster?

Kerfuffle, I also see those silly little links as useless. A waste of time and space.

I have tried Firefox several times, but that was a long time ago. I could try again, but it was hopeless at that stage: the pages scrolled down in waves!! Okay, it was probably an older version of Firefox.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I'll try it again.

Yes, my patience really IS running out with the page-loading, although I realise the fault does not ONLY lie with this site.

Zurie, IE7 is no longer supported here or on any sites I usually use. The computer I am using right now is also XP and I was able to update to IE8 with no trouble. (I don't know about IE9, but am sticking with IE8 for the moment).

I think you would avoid at least some of the problems if you updated to IE8. You may have to click the compatibility icon for many sites - I still have to even though IE8 has been around for a while - but I am not getting the very slow loads you describe. It loads more slowly than FF - does seem to get hung up early on for a bit, but is not too terrible. I still use FF when I can.

    Thank you, duonyte!

I did switch to Firefox as Kerfuffle suggested, and yes, it is faster on F.com. But I still do not like it -- the fonts are fainter. And it often has hypochondriac messages.

It also says it cannot update it on Windows XP, and I am "not protected".

I switched back to IE 7, and will tomorrow try and update to 8. (It's late evening here).

It annoys me no end that Microsoft is always trying to "mend stuff that ain't broke". Upgrading means either a new computer and laptop, or endless work done on both -- and a new learning curve. icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif

I don't get any of those messages with FF, Zurie - I wish I could suggest something, but I have no idea icon_sad.gif I get your computer is not protected because I have not updated the virus software, that's different,of course.

No, my anti-virus updates daily, automatically.

Actually, I DO think I might have IE 8. I'll have to check.

I find that if I go online here when you are still in nighttime, the site is faster. So I try to check my forums, etc. early in the (our) morning.

I can see it coming -- I'll have to upgrade to Windows 8 or something.
Wish they'd stop upgrading systems which work just fine.

Duonyte, I checked, and I'm actually using IE 8.

    I'll manage. (I hate Firefox. icon_wink.gif)
