    I ended up postpoining the test and the doctor's appointment. Tom has not been feeling well and slept most of yesterday. I do better when he is with me because he can read maps. I can't/ He couldn't come with me today, he can come with me at a future time. (He worked in the hospital for about 8 years and knows where departments are located.0

    tasb and Leggy Peggy, you are doing great with exercise!!

    I will paste the pictures soon. Today I can't stay away from the bathroom.

    Just a fast note, this is DH's Off Friday so have to keep him happy. We slept in this morning, then did some shopping and now he's making a run to fill some Rx and then we've plans for dinner out tonight. Tomorrow we're taking a drive to the beach and we always enjoy that and it means I'll get some walking in so that's a good thing.

    Oh Laury, I have an idea what is wrong with you, as the 2 of us have been around here for such a long time! But I have no idea what is wrong with your DH!!

    I only hope you two get better. Wish I was not across the sea, and closer by, and could be of some help!!! icon_sad.gif

    Bonnie, I hope you enjoy your day! I would like to send you some of our (excess!!!!) sunshine! Now I know why I prefer winter ... I can warm up, but trying to cool down with this sea humidity is impossible! We do put on the aircons, but it is heavy on power.

    Today was better -- we had some heavy squalls of thunderstorm-type rain, which brought cooler weather.

    Hi everyone! Here is my story:

    Around 12 years ago I weighed around 250 lbs. I really am one of those people who are "big-boned" and quite muscular since I was very active. I went on a crash diet and exercise and lost 40 lbs in one month. I met my husband and kept losing weight until I was around 180. I still wanted to lose 25-30 lbs, but I didn't. I stayed the same for at least 5 years. I cut out processed food, soda (drank diet), and added more vegetables.

    Then my DH fell ill and was hospitalized for a couple of months. I sat by his bed most days and when he was better realized that I was very stiff. I thought it was the uncomfortable hospital chairs, lol. It was actually arthritis. Now I have it very bad in my knees and feet. I also have neuropathy in the lower extremities. I have not yet been to a orthopedic doctor because I am a terrible procrastinator and don't have that much spare time because I am always caring for DH and working. But enough with excuses. I have regained all the weight I lost so many years ago because it is difficult to walk. My job is strenuous and I do the best I can.

    I have a pretty good grasp of what is healthy to eat, etc, but my problem must be portion control. Even too much of a good thing is, well, too much of a good thing. Part of that comes from my desire to save money and not eat out. I also think anything I make has got to be better than fast food or cafeteria food. I tended to pack too large a lunch because I didn't want to be hungry. I work nights and was packing a lunch and dinner. Now I am packing a dinner and eating lunch either at home or on the way to work.

    I need to start somewhere and make a committment some time. Here I am!

    My sister and I both are unable to to distinguish true hunger. I am always hungry even if I have just eaten. I mean actually hungry. So I can no longer go by that...

    Now my DH is even more seriously ill and lost 100 lbs or so in just a few months. It was quite alarming. He was losing something like 4-8 lbs per day. He was anorexic. I was hoping his weight would level off and it has. He has also regained his appetite.

    I think I need to keep a food journal because I don't think I eat that much, but obviously I do.

    Wow, threeovens, that's an incredible story and you are great to share it.
    Hope 2013 is the year you can move forward—oops downward—weight-wise,
    and that we can be of some help and encouragement here.
    It's hard to care for someone who's ill and yourself at the same time.
    Such a relief that your hubby's weight has stabilised and appetite increased.
    Hang-in there.

    P.S. I read somewhere recently that diet sodas can contribute a lot to
    weight gain. Messes with something chemically. I stick to water all day.
    It's worth a try if you are a soda drinker.

    Welcome threeovens and so happy you've decided to join us and share your heart warming story. What a very special person you are and I think you're going to like this thread as we're all struggling in one way or the other with the same goals - some have reached them and share there struggles and others - like me; are still fighting the battle. Sometimes winning and other times not, but knowing what you are doing is a big part of the battle.

    I think in your case the idea of a journel of what you it might be a necessity. I know that commitment is tough but take it one week at a time, not months and it won't seem so daunting. When I did it I had a lot better luck and was shocked at what I really didn't realize I was eating extra during the day. To make it easier on myself I'd make out a menu weekly with what I planned to eat, with blank spaces after each meal to fill in any extras, I didn't want to fill in those spots so it really kept me in line. Come to think about it I should think about doing that again.

    I do agree with Peggy in that even diet soda can put on weight, I was a big diet soda drinker but decided to give it up and now it's a rare occassion that I even open one. I try to drink water with a slice of lemon and cucumber in it and find I really like that combo and don't enjoy sodas that much anymore.

    I'm also struggeling with exercise for 2 reasons. The biggest is I don't LIKE it and the next is from pain issues with a sore foot and back pain that is now much better. But know that's a major issue with my weight problem.

    Leggy Peggy, have a good weekend! I need to check that out about diet soda making people gain weight. I do drink diet soda around 2 a day.

    :waves: threeovens!! I am glad you came to share your story with us. I understand arthritis since I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. I also know being a caregiver is extremely difficult especially when you are working. (My husband is my caregiver.)
    I'm sorry that your husband is so seriously ill.
    I feel a fooid journal might help you quite a bit. I hope this is the year that you can lose the weight you want.

    I weighed myself this morning and was pleasantly surprised-
    147.5. My doctor has advised me that my goal weight is anywhere from 130 to 140, I am to make sure that I dont go below 130. I fall frequently and my doctor feels having a little extra fat will protect my bones. I have already done my exercising for the day. I love to finish it before Tom is even awake.

    Welcome Zurie, Leggy Peggy, Recipe Reader and threeovens. First let me say that I am two weeks, yesterday, post op from rotator cuff repair and haven't been posting because I have to take my shoulder stablizer off to type, that doesn't feel good and I am sure is not good for my recovery. You will be seeing more of me soon, I hope. I can click the mouse so I can play a game or two daily on fb so if you are my friend there just know the mouse doesn't require me to remove my stablizer and I am not shunning my job here. I have read everyone's story and am very impressed.

    My current goal is not to gain weight while I "laid" up in my recliner and so far I have actually lost a couple of pounds. Life is very boring right now, LOL, I sit in the recliner all day and then sleep in it, too. I was told this would go on for at least two months but I am ready for bed. I do go to PT a couple of times a week and do my exercises for my shoulder at least 3 times a day.

    Proud of all of you and know I am reading just not posting.

    Jacqueline, I am thrilled to see you posting. I decided not to call you so I don't wake you. Jacqueline, if you have eiher a PC or a Mac that you are posting from, you might be able to speak type to the computer. .
    I am so glad that you are reading. If I run into a problem, I will see that someone else, hosting, has seen it to. I think it will also take some stress off me knowing that you will be back.

    My name is Ellie and about 5 years ago lost 90 on WW and kept it off for a few years. After a few surgeries and a change in the program (the points plus just isn't working for me) and not being active I gained 25 back -- now nothing fits. And after the last surgery (rotator cuff) I lived in sweats and easy to pull on clothes and no activity except for the PT. My WW activity points were 0-5 total for the week. Just joined the fitness weight loss program at the gym we belong too. Diet is high protein and lots of workouts - 3-5 workouts/week for about an hour each. I think this may be the kick I need and need to lose that 25!

    Diet sodas have started getting that rep. Once a WW leader told me my problem was diet sodas - stopped for a week lost 5 pounds and never went back. i think it may be the sodium but it may be something else too.

    :waves:ellie! Welcome! Wow! Losing 90 pounds is wonderful. I have heard several people recommend Weight Watchers. It's wonderful that you belong to a gym and workout there!! I hope that we can encourage you so you can lose the weight you want.
    I did read several articles yesterday on how weight gain is connected to diet soda. I am not sure that I am ready to give up drinking them right now, however,

    For me, I did exercise twice today and soon Tom will want a turn on the computer which means I will go to the bedroom and do a 10-minute walk. I am not ready to give up soda when the caffeine in it does give me a little energy. Maybe I can limit my sodas to 2 times a day unless there is no coffee which would mean I would need one to wake me up.
