When you click on the "Ask a Question" link, you come to the Q&A Forum, where members of the food.com community will try to answer your question. Most recipe writers do not monitor this forum; if you want to ask the poster directly, click the down-arrow next to his/her name, and choose "Contact This Chef" from the menu which appears.

The poster is using an old-fashioned pressure cooker with a whistling valve. You'll have to write and ask him/her to be more clear - I haven't seen a unit like that in 20 years.

I understand that this is an old pressure cooke. I can only go back as far as the weighted rocker on top. Was there a previous version that periodically bled off pressure by whistling? Maybe she was cooking in the same kitchen as Harland Sanders?

Whistling pressure cookers (not pressure fryers, which is what Colonel Sanders used) are commonly used in India today, and this is an Indian recipe. As noted, your best bet is contacting the contributor.
