I actually was lucky enough to win a contest with this recipe!

    Beef and Guinness Stew

    DH and I both love it. I usually make it with a soda bread recipe that I have! c o m f o r t icon_wink.gif

Joy, I think you can freeze the rest of that beer - I know what you mean about the cost, it always surprises me! - you will lose the carbonation, but that does not matter in a stew.

Thanks I am going to give it a try - after all I won't loose anything and might just gain, and as you say it won't matter if the carbonation has gone. will let you know how it goes.... I could drink it lol but don't like it as a drink icon_wink.gif

I do have an awesome recipe for cider beef stew. I've never posted it, so I just looked for something similar, but it's significantly different than the cider beef stews that are posted here already. I might have to get it posted before I forget it. I've been making it from memory for over 20 years.

Stew is just the best cold weather treat. It's a tummy warmer, for sure!

I will wait to compare my Cider Stew with with yours. Sadly Cider used to be a budget item but thanx to the FDA it has become a luxury item, Even here in New England. icon_cry.gif

I bought the ingredients, but just had surgery yesterday, so it'll be a few days before I get it made. I used to use real apple cider, but once when I was out of it I tried a packet of hot apple cider mix and found it was a really good substitute. Have used it ever since. I don't even drink the stuff! Had it from a Christmas gift basket or something, but have bought it ever since just for stew. icon_lol.gif
I'd love to try your recipe too though! Please consider posting it for me.

Yum! I'm Irish and I love a good soda bread. I love to cook with beer, but I rarely drink it. Especially the dark stuff. I've put this recipe straight into my cookbook. Can't wait to try it!

We are supposed to have horribly cold temps over the next few days, high of 8 on Monday, so I guess I should have waited, but found really meaty beef neck bones, so tossed together a stew this afternoon - served over mashed potatoes. Very yummy.

Thanks for everyone's patience! I finally felt well enough after surgery to get my stew recipe made, written down, and posted. icon_smile.gif
The photo could be better. I was obviously out of sorts the night I made it, cause I totally forgot to photograph it. The next morning I realized it and did it then. Even though leftover stew is still really good, it didn't have a lot of liquid left for the photo. icon_confused.gif
Anyway, here's my family's favorite stew recipe:

Tinks - so glad to hear that you are on the mend - you did well to cook this! and you did remember the photograph - even if it was the next day it looks yummy.
