Hi Folks. I have been putting off the purchase of a new kitchen scale for way to long (yes Pun intended), and I would like your input.

I have been eyeballing this one on Amazon American Weigh Silver AMW-13 Digital Postal/Kitchen Scale, 13 LB http://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Silver-Digital-Kitchen/dp/B003STEJFM/ref=pd_ybh_5
    home website link http://www.americanweigh.com/product_info.php?products_id=99

I like the fact that it has an optional power adapter as well as a way to turn off the auto shut off. The 13 lb capacity will be handy for using as a postal scale but that comes with the trade off of a 10 g min weight. I have a small scale that can handle tiny amounts so this isn't a show stopper for me.

I would love your input on what you may be using or planning on buying for around the same price point. What do you look for in a scale beyond the accuracy and repeatability?

Looks like a good scale and a really good deal.

I've found that Amazon has an open box/damaged box section with reduced price products with full warranties.

Just go to the Amazon Today's Deals section and look on the upper menu selections for Warehouse Deals . I buy all of my kitchen gadgets from that section.

that looks a lot like a scale I got at Aldis for $10 = I believe it goes to 11 lbs. The platform on yours might be larger. I love these digital scales - they are skinny enough to slip into a cabinet and be handy for when you need one.

The platform is 6 X 6 inches which should be big enough for the kitchen. Any bigger and I would prob pass on it. I just don't have that much storage space left. I like the higher weight capacity as well because most of my bowls are hefty, either stoneware or heavy glass, so the added weight capacity will be needed to tare them out before measurement. A 5 lb scale like my old one doesn't leave me much to work with.

My scale which I love is a small, flat one that I got at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It can be changed from European weights to US, and I love that I can put a bowl on it and then Zero it out so I can add ingrediants directly to the bowl and even zero out between additions. I also like it because the flat design allows me to slide it into a cabinet on it's side between objects taking up little or no space. I'm really not sure how how the weight goes on it, but it's sue served me in every occasion I've needed it for.

This is the scale I have, DH got it for me I HATE IT

Too many buttons, hard to figure out.....all I wanted to do is weigh out 5 lbs of shredded cabbage for a recipe I was canning LOL
I'm waiting an appropriate amount of time to replace it LOL

Katie that is so funny, only because I've been through that with DH. I'll tell him exactly what I want and he'll come home with something he figures is "better" icon_rolleyes.gif Don't want to hurt his feelings so have to wait until it "breaks" or when he won't see me sneak the right one into the house.

Thank you all for the input. I finally ordered the AMW 13. The price actually dropped a tad during the time it took me to decide what else to buy along with it to take advantage of the free shipping. (New pepper mill on the way as well). I will let you know how I made out after I use it for a bit.

I don't use mine every day, but when I do need it, I am SO thankful I bought it.
I used to collect pepper mills. I just love them. What does yours look like? Acrylic, wooden, stainless? icon_biggrin.gif
