    Happy Monday friends, I was pleasantly surprised this morning to find I was down 1.5#, not a lot but hey - I'll take it as moving in the right directions.

    The farmers markets is amazing here - so many strange things like breadfruit and soursop - but even more amazing is the differance in our standbys - both oranges and lemons are green here and the lemons have this stange bumby skin, but they taste great. the market we went to is almost 2 acres so plenty to see and do, we bought a whole week or more worth of goodies and didn't even spend $10 so it's pretty cheap. Now if you go to the grocery store - you can get things you recognize better, but they are EXPENSIVE and as they are imported the quality is usually something I'd be throwing out in the states. Another thing at the market I'm having fun with are the greens and herbs - oh so differant from anything I'm used to but will be fun to try.

    Glad you are feeling better Alisa and hope your DH is soon.

    Debb, you are doing so well - a few downslides are to be expected. Hope your DH is better soon too and don't tire yourself out to much on that OT. At least you've planned ahead with your meals and that should be a big help.

    tasb- sounds like you are doing great, you've so much energy and always have something you're involved with. You're my hero when it comes to that stuff. How's your sister doing?

    Bonnie G, going to the farmers' market sounds like a great way to have fun and exercise!!

    Debbwl, it's great to have breakfast and lunch ready to go for the week. When Tom was working we tried to do that. Now that he's retired, we tend to do things spur of the moment. The only thing he does is cut up all the celery so if I want a snack when he's napping, outside, etc, I can get it myself.

    Alisa Lee, I'm glad that you are feeling better/ Hopefully your husband will soon feel better. I like the idea of starting again each Monday.

    tasb, even on a lazy day you exercised. That's fantastic!!!

    For myself, yesterday I got all my walks in. I haven't really started exercising yet. Mondays. My philosopky about exercise and almost anything else is even if I make a bad choice, I can make a better choice next time.

    Sounds like most had a good week-end, I am now on the count down to surgery and dreading it more and more. LOL, each day when I get a shower I let the hot water hit my right shoulder almost the entire time I am in the shower. I guess I am hoping it will get better and not need surgery. I know I have tried to move it a 100 different ways to try to make it feel better and so far it hasn't worked. I am still looking for that miraculous healing on Thursday or Friday.

    Alisa, I am happy to hear you are feeling better.

    Tasb, is this the last day of your holiday? I get tired reading all you do and have no idea how you do it, but I think I have said that before.

    Laury, glad you have been able to get your exercise.

    Debbwl, I have worked many hours of OT, use to have as many or more hours OT as I did straight time. I also blame that on my fibromyalgia and having to quit work. Just never got enough rest, please don't let this happen to you.

    Bonnie, I am so jealous of a farmer's market anywhere. We do not have such things here. The only farmer's market I get to go to is my garden and of course this time of year there isn't one. I am not so sure that I will have one next year either, just depends on how everything turns out.

    I was suppose to have an appointment with my PCP today, but they canceled it and it is tomorrow. I am sitting here trying to stretch my jeans out enough they will button. I hate the thoughts of going up another size in jeans, but I believe I am going to have to. I bought two pairs yesterday that just pull on so I won't have to worry with a button and zipper while recovering. I have kept all my jeans from my weight loss so I have three sizes more I can go up but I am not going there. Sis just called we are going out for a bit, so talk to you all later.

    I know it'll go well for you Jac, just make sure you follow docs orders and I wouldn't worry about weight at all right now - you need to worry more about eating enough to promote healing.

    The summer before my back surgery I had to let my garden go too as just could not do it - I'm going home a month early this time so that I can make sure I get one in now that I'm feeling so much better - you will be too once you get through the healing process.

    Jacqueline, you will be fine after your surgery, I am praying it is minor but you can cope with it if it isn't. I know you don't want to but you will be able to handle it if it happens. . I will be having medical tests in January and oral surgery in February. I will miss,at the most, one day for the surgery.

    I want to remind everyone here of the other forums we have which may have useful information while we try to downsize.

    Yes Jacqueline listen to Bonnie just do what the doctors says and don’t worry about size and weight till you get healed up a bit.

    Thanks Laury for reminding everyone there are other threads.

    As for me I just got home and the soup is simmering but did get in a 20 minute walk.

    Woohoo! Stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down 4 lb. I know the first week back on track it's probably all water weight but I don't care, I'll take it. Worked 10 hours today and did an hour of Zumba. I'm pooped! icon_eek.gif

    bonnie, congrats on the loss. Not even $10 for a weeks worth of veggies, WOW.

    Laury, your philosophy is so right. We all slip up the thing is not to feel bad out it when it does happen. Good to hear that you got your walks in yesterday and today.

    Jac, don't get too stressed about your surgery. Just concentrate on getting things ready. Use your stress to prepare. If I am not lazy then I am going full-boar when I am stressed. That is why you find me baking and taking on other things. I do it to work out my stress. The down side is I eat it too.

    Debbwl, good for you getting in a walk while soup was simmering. I find all soups taste better if they simmer. When I make them I do my best to get them going as early as possible.

    Alisa, way to go, down 4 lbs. 10 hours of work and an hour of Zumba, WOW.

    Me, well I vegged on the couch until 10 this morning. Then drove to town for DS's appointment. We think the voice he hears is just his subconscious. That he only hears it when stressed and that his level of stress has gone down since his bully left his school. I had also mentioned when he was young that he couldn't sit still and I had thought of getting him tested for ADHD, but when he hit school he was able to sit still, but I was always told by his teacher that he played with things all the time, lost concentration. Even now his teachers say he lacks concentration. The Dr. thinks he is ADD, I have a questionnaire to fill out and I have to get a teacher to fill out the other one. Then we might try meds. It is all making sense to me now.

    My drive was worry-some. It snowed last night and was warm enough to start melting this morning, so I came across slushy spots. My poor right shoulder, the right side of my neck and my left hand were killing me when I finally got to town. I went early because of the roads and to have some ME time. I didn't go to work at all this morning, not even a phone call in. I went to Costco and got some credit for a Crock-Pot Duo I was gifted, then picked up a huge bag of flour, seasoning salt and Italian Seasoning. Then off to lunch, then wandered around Wal-mart, Pennington's and Bed Bath and Beyond before picking up my son. After his appointment we picked up a lunch for him, 10 Grain Cereal and Flax Seeds from a health food store (for multi-grain bread) and went to Starbucks for coffee, a cup and a pack of K-Cups. Then home again. I got in my exercise already, 34 minutes because I had an awesome song playing. I gave it my all and ended up with a side stitch. icon_biggrin.gif

    Glad to hear everyone is doing so well. tasb - my DGS went on meds for the same thing and it really made a big differance in his ability to concentrate in school. His grades went from C's to straight A's and he's maintained that for the last 4 years. While I hate to see kids go on meds, when it's needed it makes a major differance in their lives and sounds like they are confirming your son's needs in the same manner they did mine.

    Sun is out here today, after a very rainy day yesterday so I'm planning on getting out for a walk in a little while. Love these sunny, warm days that have cool breezes - just cannot be beat.

    tasb, I think getting your son labelled ADD would be a help to your son and his teachers. If they know he has a hard time concentrating, they may find other things which will help him. I hope being given some medication will help him concentrate more so neither he nor his teachers get concerned.

    We are having a nice day today and Tom is ready to leave for the day.

    Tabs hope all goes well with your DS, can see how that would be very worry-some for you. But you did an awesome job eating health and exercising after words.

    Bonnie, do you have a garden you can enjoy your sunny working as that would be good excise as well.

    As for me left home it was dark got home it was dark icon_sad.gif but have started doing the tea bag to a litter of water about every other day and that is good for someone who drinks almost nothing but coffee.

    I am hoping that is diagnosis will help him greatly. He does good in school when I am on his case, making sure he is doing his work, but I am not that kind of mom to constantly harp on my children. I took the school job not so I could hover over my children, but for the hours that I could be with them afterwards. The restaurant industry I was working all hours of the day and night. I had actually gone 1 1/2 days without seeing my son multiply times. I sent him to school one morning (7:30 am), then worked that night (1-9 pm) and then the next morning (5 am start), so I didn't see him until he got home (3:30 pm). Now I get all the holidays they do, nearly the same hours.

    Bonnie, I am happy to hear your DGS benefited from the meds. Hope you got out and enjoyed the sun shine, send some my way.

    Laury, did you get in some exercise or just rest while Tom was gone?

    Debbwl, good to see you are getting some water in. I has getting bad at not drinking water for a bit there. I also hate this time of year because of the darkness all the time. The sun goes down 3 pm here. I have a kinda funny story: years ago when I was working at the restaurant, hubby came in and said they were hiring security guards for $20 and up starting wage, he would get more because he has training. Then I seen his smirk, I asked where. He said Northern BC near the Yukon boarder. I told him I would be come a serial killer if I moved up there, and he would be my first victim for dragging me to a place that had no sunlight.

    Me, well I felt better today, that meeting helped me put alot of my son's behavior into perspective. I did a quick look at the questionnaire I have to fill out and a lot of the questions apply to my son. Both me and hubby agree that he should try the meds. Also improving his diet, he is such a carb junkie,most of what he packs for lunch is carbs. Sandwich of bread and jam, chewy bar, muffin, juice box. Cereal for breakfast, toast with peanut butter and jam as a snack when he gets home and usually toast for night time snack. He needs more protein and complex carbs to eat. I was bugging him this afternoon telling him that he is going to have to join me for a morning coffee. I remember one co-worker saying she worked with a kid before, the first thing he did when he got to school was he was given a cup of black coffee because it helped his ADHD. Hey isn't coffee more natural than drugs. icon_lol.gif icon_eek.gif icon_twisted.gif

    I tried to excuse myself from exercise. I was very tired, yawning, but got on my elliptical still. A promise to myself is still a promise. And it is only day 8, slip up now I will let it all go out the window. I got in 36 minutes to remind myself why I am doing it. And I felt so much better after getting started I wanted to do the extra 6. The upside I got 3 more partial meals into the freezer tonight. I bought extra veggies for stir-fry and did up a big batch and froze some for meals. I just have to de-frost, add sauce, chicken and noodles and dinner is ready in a couple minutes. The upside, my shoulder is hurting a little less today. Still a little sore but not as bad.

    Yeah, I would love to garden - that's one of my favorite things to do, but unfortunaltly I live on the 12th floor of the complex here with only a balcony to enjoy the sunshine. That said, I DO have a very small garden sitting on it where I grow herbs - specially basil as this is a country that doesn't have basil and I LOVE to cook with it. another is cilantro, they have something that is similar in smell, but not taste and those are our favorite herbs. I'm also thinking of starting a few tomatoe plants as we love vine ripened an this way I'd know what I had.

    I'm off for a short walk today, need to get out a bit. Oh made Cran-Apple Walnut Cake (Lighter Version) trying to concentrate on cooking lighter and it was a huge sucess w/DH saying "make this one again" so moist and full of flavor

    tasb, coffee is much more natural than pills are. In fact, my doctor has told me not to ever go to an emergency room with my asthma. She wants me to drink 2 cups of coffee instead. I have heard this from several doctors that for most people 2 cups of coffee will stop an emergency breathing problem. The only time this doesn't work is if the person drinks coffee all day. There is a belief, by some people. that it stunts kids growth. My nephews drank it daily and one is 6'5" and the other 6' 4".

    Debbwl, keep up with drinking water!!

    Bonnie G, you already have plans for when you are back home. You will love gardening since you haven't been doing much of it for a while.

    I have finished walking for the week. I finished my last walk both yesterday and today after Tom left for the day. His friend couldn't meet him yesterday so he went back today. I needed him gone because yesterday I didn't get done as much as I wanted to. Today I want to finish what I need to do and then do a lot of reading. Hopefully, it will put me in a better mood.
