Hi All,
Yesterday I completed a mini-ground meat session using 5 pounds each of ground beef and ground turkey. Some of the entrees came out cheaper than others, but I'm sure that most people will be able to better than I on cost since I live in one of the most expensive areas in the U.S.!
My most expensive entree was
Thai Beef Pitas. I made a double batch using 1.5 lbs of ground beef for each entree instead of the 1 pound called for in the recipe. Cost to feed a family of four comes to $6.89 Add some rice and lettuce leaves to wrap the meat mixture in and I still consider that a good deal.
I also made a double batch of
Hot Tamale Balls. This will feed our family for four meals. Each meal comes to $4.94.
I also made four meals worth of turkey meatballs and gravy. This came out to only $3.50 per meal! Add some rice and a green salad and we're doing good!
In addition I made 21 meal size turkey, bean and cheese burritos. Cost per burrito is $0.60. I had a large can of enchilada sauce in the pantry so I portioned that out as well (7 portions). If you add in the sauce to the cost of the burrito, it's $0.81 per burrito. Cheaper, and better, than Taco Bell!
Feels good to have all that sitting in the freezer!
