ISO: Different Ways Of Serving Pierogies....

I'm looking for some new tasty ideas on how to serve Pierogies. We usually just have them with spaghetti sauce. Sometimes with kielbasa and recently we started having them with butter. I'm looking for different ways to serve them. Thanks in advance christine

We serve them with sour cream, bacon bits, sour cream sauce , butter, or various combinations of same. If the filling is sweetened cheese, then some chopped mint is nice with the sour cream or whatever.

Never heard of them with spaghetti sauce.

We were in Enfield, CT Wednesday and bought pierogi.

I'm Polish and just have them the standard way. Saute some onions in butter. Add pierogi. Serve with sour cream.

Same here, boil, then pan saute with onions and butter, sour cream to finish. Never had them any other way.

I have seen people use bacon and some other flavors of pierogies have nuts and even some dried fruit; but usually sauteed in butter

    Never seen spaghetti sauce either.

Spaghetti sauce? Good heavens! Not with the sauerkraut filling, I hope? All the Poles I grew up with would probably be aghast.
Onions, butter, bacon, sour cream (or yogurt cheese) are the usual toppings, although some people use applesauce or sauteed apples.

I highly recommend pierogi soup. I liken it to polish noodle soup. I make it when my children are sick, and on cold, snowy nights with a loaf of homemade bread. This is the base recipe I use. I add diced veggies ( carrot, celery and onion) and if I want a hearty soup , I add diced polish sausage or shredded chicken.

This recipe sounds fast and comforting. I will probably try it - I thought using sauerkraut pierogis would be an interesting variation. icon_smile.gif
