    I've just tried to come up with the 12 days of christmas in a more food direction... this is what I got...

    12 turkey drummers...
    11 cake makers piping
    10 gourds a steaming
    9 Ladies fingers (okra)
    8 made with milk in !
    7 Swans a simmering (Queens kitchen only)
    6 Geese a laying
    5 old tins
    4 cooling birds (waiting to be carved)
    3 french sticks
    2 turtle soups
    and Partridge with pear and brie

    any other ideas ... icon_smile.gif

    Dinner time - Middle of the day , this is a bit of an odd thing... why ?.. Well because if its at home and a cooked meal we tend to call it "dinner" but if you take something to work you tend to call it "lunch" (as in a packed lunch.. which very locally in our house would be called your "bait")... so this could be a big cooked meal (after a small breakfast remember, not a brunch)... or could be sandwiches, pasta and chicken, fruit,salads etc at work..

    Tea time - the evening meal but it would tend to be around 4:30 to 6pm for most people... as the children finish school starving and mum and dad finish work.... again a cooked meal...sometimes sandwiches and soup.. sometimes a salad etc...

    Supper time - sometimes but not always you might get a big hungry later on... so around 8-10pm you might have a light sandwich, a packet of crisps, a slice of toast... etc..(not really a meal just sometimes you are starving..)

    Takeaway time - if you happen to be of an age where you go out drinking the night away.... any time from 10pm till the very early hours might find you in the takeaway ordering anything from fried chicken to curries or kebabs....

    Meals tend to vary, a big breakfast means you wouldn't be hungry in the middle of the day so might have a much lighter meal etc.. etc..etc...

    oh and not everyone in the UK follows these same times and meal names.. some call the evening meal "dinner" and other have it later in the evening...

    First let me say Thank You for taking the time to explain that. I LOVE learning other "cultures". And what better way than with food. I guess here in the states, our meals are similiar. Except, my day starts waaayyyyy before 9:30 AM. I am up by 4:30 - 5:00 AM. My work day starts at 7:00 AM, and usually never ends until I fall into bed at night. LOL Today for example, I worked 8 hours, then came home and made 3 pans of bars for my work Christmas party on Saturday. I did 2 loads of laundry, I'm cooking supper - which is baked potatoes, veggies, and baked pork chops. I have cookie dough made to make into actual cookies tomorrow. And it is just 6:00 pm. Lots packed into the day. This isn't typical for me, sometimes more, sometimes less. All depends on what is going on. My work days vary in time, also. I sometimes can get out after 6 hours of work, then there are the 10 - 12 hour days. Occasionally a 14 hour day. I always joke - perks of ownership. LOL

    I thank you !... I'd love to take all the credit but I think a lot is down to the camera... I'm getting better at setting things up in the physical world (ie plating up, making dishes that look better, getting the right angles, putting lighting in) but the camera is very good at sorting out its own settings.. well it is when I put it to the setting I want to use (Pro Focus Mode I think its called on mine..)

    I might just add, our daughter got her wedding photos back from the Proffesional Photographer and there are one or two good ones, but nothing stands out as any better than the ones we took... so maybe as cameras become more affordable we are taking better photos...?

    todays breakfast... taken indoors with almost sunshine coming in, then added the studio lights...(I think the extra lighting gives it more glow and makes the darker bits darker ?)

    Using a Warburtons sandwich pitta as a base (they are round, meant to half them but don't), spread on a good layer of well cooked baked beans (so they have thickened up), then add sliced mushrooms, grated cheese and top up with streaky bacon (or pancetta) and break up a good sausage (in this case one of Asda's special range, an Italian sausage with garlic and fennel, they are great by themselves)... then wack in the oven and cook till golden... icon_smile.gif One very tasty Breakfast Pizza !



    and a big fat sausage filled close up...


    its odd they way things get triggered.. I was watching a Jamie Oliver show where he was making a quick meal using sausage meat rather than mince meat (cooked quicker, already packed with flavour etc)... that made me want to use broken up sausage on something and thought about doing it on a pizza... Bought some sausage to do it with, but I was going to make a main meal out of it, and make the pizza base etc.. but this morning breakfast called and things happened... lol

    playing about with above photo... masking off all the beans and upping the colour saturation, doing the same with bits of sausage, bacon... leaves... and even going back and highlighting just bits of the sausage and darkening bits to give it a more cooked edge... !...

    I wonder how much of this goes on with photos used to sell recipe books etc.. ?

    Yes Steve the improvement of cameras and editing soft wear have made us all look better than ever icon_wink.gif

    How very disappointing to pay someone and then have photos you took turn out as good or better than the photos you had to pay for.

    Like the first two photos of your breakfast pizza but think you edited a little too much on the third one.

    While I know you are right some photos are stolen and used in books would like to believe that most people are more honest than to do that. Yes I know silly me icon_lol.gif

    with being busy and such we went for a takeaway kebab for tea... it reminded us why we don't go to takeaways !... we wished we had gone to the Chinese instead... (that wouldn't have been half as bad)... but it then left us wanting something.. a little spot that needed filling... a tastebud or two requiring a little Chinese massage....

    So I wondered what I could do that wasn't too filling, but had plenty of flavour...

    then a little light bulb lit up... soup.. a Chinese Noodle type soup..

    so armed with some veg, some chicken stock cubes, some chinese five spice and a little sesame oil....



    ps the shot above is in the house lighting (big light was on icon_lol.gif ) and my extra studio lights.... the one below is without the studio lights, think it shows how much lighting can change a photo...
