I hate it.
However it's the gift that keeps on giving as it makes a wonderful door stop!

I dont like anything sweet particularly but I have noticed that people either love fruit cake or hate it, here is one that my DH really likes, its not expensive either.

I LOVE fruitcake! However, I have had a couple of bad ones. One was dry and not very tasty. The other was damp and musty-tasting. I can see how an experience like these would put people off fruitcake. When they are good, they are very very good, and when they are bad, they are horrid.

I have had some good ones - the Trappist monk one comes to mind - and once from the supermarket, of all places, that I bought on clearance - so surprising. I am not sure that I ever made one. This as not something I grew up with, definitely not part of my heritage.

my Mum always used to get a skewer after she had kept the cake for a few weeks, and made holes on the top and sloshed Brandy over it then wrapped it back in the foil

I've really tried to like fruitcake. I mean, it sounds like the best of both worlds, right? It's fruit, but it's CAKE!
Alas, homemade, store-bought, neighbor-made; in waxed paper, in a tin; doused in juice or alcohol... nope. Just can't do it. My first DH loved it, so we got one every year, and I tried making it, but I couldn't enjoy it anyway, anyhow.

I'd rather not have to eat it.

Only in cookie form I like it, I have tried the store bought and isn't too bad, but nothing I would go out of my way for. One year my step-mother made her aunty's recipe and it wasn't too bad, but the next year my step-mother was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and can no longer bake with flour.
Here is the recipe I use Fruitcake Drops.

Hate. It.
Passionately!
Somehow the combination of wonderful ingredients turns out to be much, much less than the sum of the parts.

You said it! I've never had anything more vile than fruitcake of any denomination.

if you're on the fence, my mom's "holiday bread' recipe is really good.. not too much candied fruit.

LOVE fruitcake. I made our wedding cake; in those days they were fruitcake. I have been making it almost every year since.
