My co-worker is the president of the board of directors for the humane society here. They have a dog "in custody" that has to have her leg amputated. The dog, whose name is Happy, is having surgery tomorrow. I am going to look at her on Friday at the vet. The vet that is doing the surgery is one of my vets. He also did Candy's surgery when she lost her leg. Happy's owner was killed so she ended up at the humane society. I don't know how the owner was killed but my co-worker said that's how the dog was hurt, too. Don't know if it was an accident or what happened.

I know what I said about not getting another dog. Don't go there. Lloyd's Cripple Creek Ranch is lonesome.

I think you can go on Facebook and see Happy. It's the Dublin/Laurens County Humane Society in Georgia, not South Carolina. There is a kitten on their page.

jneen..... I went and looked at her..she looks so sweet! I have one question for you though.....are you willing to have her be an indoor dog, only outside with direct supervision, since you know now that there are coyotes around that will not hesitate to go after her?

I know what you said but I'm pretty sure we we all talk through our hats when it comes to critters. icon_smile.gif

The post on the Humane society page said her leg had been broken but didn't say anything about amputation. Was the break left too long or was there severe fracturing or crushing?

In either case I can't imagine the little girl having a better home than with you and the gang at Cripple Creek Ranch. You know that one visit and you will be a goner don't you? lol

For others who might not have fb I scooped the photo to show you.

    Here's Happy!

Well I don't know about anything you may or may not have "said" about getting or not getting another dog, but . . . Happy looks like she needs you!

PS: When my grandparents lost their Heidi, they decided not to get another dog either. For a few months Then they realized how much they missed having "a Heidi" around, and they ended up with Coco. icon_smile.gif I think it's a measure of how much we loved our pups (or kitties, for that matter) that when we lose them, we don't want to be without a dog (or cat).

She may already have a home. Not sure at this point. I'll keep y'all updated. My co-worker is the one who told me about the amputation. She is our staff attorney and resident animal nut case. She is the president of the board of directors for the humane society. She went to the vet's office this morning and talked with two of the shelter workers. Happy is there and having her surgery today.

As far as keeping her in. It's not a problem because we have a teeny tiny chihuahua that cannot be left outside, either.

God is in control. If she is meant to be mine, she will be. We thought Candy was already adopted, too. Then a couple of weeks later the humane society called and said they never came to get her, so I did.

I am taking the grandkids to Disney for a few days closer to Christmas. That may also be a deciding factor. If she is not housebroken I won't be able to leave her for 5 days after starting the housetraining. Like I sai, we'll see.

*Edited to add: She looks like a baby goat or lamb, doesn't she? She looks pitiful.

I think baby goats, lambs and Happy are adorable.
As you suggest... what should be will be.

PS If she is 5 I would expect her to be house trained.

Jneen as soon as I saw "well" on the page I knew you were going to get another dog. Happy is adorable and if you get her, she will be one lucky little girl.

I think we've all said at one time or another that we would not get another dog but we are all talking with our heads and not taking our hearts into consideration. Hearts overrule heads every time.
