I have to agree with you about the Blu cheese dressing. I absolutely love the stuff, and I have never found any thing else that compares with it. Unfortunately the Pizza Kings in Alexandria and Elwood In. are not franchises and they do not have the dressings homemade like the others. Imagine my surprise the first time I ordered a large chef salad and waited for the delivery, when I opened the sack, mouth watering, only to find a packet of Newman's Own Dressing. Heartbreak, instant Heartbreak. icon_sad.gif By the way, it costs $82.35 to ship a large Pizza King Pepperoni Pizza to Rancho Santa Fe, CA. I know, because whenever my oldest daughter cannot live another day without one, she calls and starts begging, and I just can't stand to hear a grown woman beg.

I'm from Lafayette Indiana.........was in HS when Wendy Swartz opened the first Pizza King in a shopping center (a small corner room with carry-out pizza.)
Later he franchised and Arnie's opened there and enlarged the restaurant.....with entertainment and an expanded menu. It was THE best pizza and food in town....and still has a "full house" every day. My DH and I go there almost everyday when we get back home......(we now live in AZ) and have been known to bring frozen pizzas home on the plane with us.
Many of the franchises didn't stay true to the original, but Arnie's did, and they are wonderful.
They serve a California Blend Cream soup that I love, but haven't been able to duplicate that either.
I have heard that they cook their pepperoni twice (to eliminate a lot of the grease) but really don't have any inside info as to whether that is true or not.
Anyway...........Love Pizza King.........and it will always be our favorite.

The secret is in the dough not the other ingredients. Because I have worked there in the past and can make all but the dough. It is the way they let it rise for hours in a heated cupboard. I use to be a fan of Pizza King but the last few times it was not worth the price of the pizza to me. It is gotten way to spicy something has changed not sure if it is the sauce or the meat. So, the only thing I like now is the breadsticks and I can make them at home. Fleishmans Bread World has a close copy http://www.breadworld.com/Recipe.aspx?id=870. Good luck what we do for our kids and our belly's...LOL

As already previously mentioned, posting your private email address in a public forum is not a great idea, as it can be easily harvested by spam bots. When a new reply is posted in a forum you are watching an email ia sentr to you by food.com, so it's not necessary. You can edit your email out or alter it so spam bots won't recognize it.

Any chance anyone could post what they know about the recipe? I understand it's ground pepperoni, cheese, some kind of pizza/spaghetti/marinara sauce? Any ideas would be helpful. We don't have a Pizza King here and I am craving a mild stromboli!!

This thread goes back to over a year ago. I am not at all familiar with Pizza King. Here is one I found posted that uses pepperoni.

One of the best Stromboli that I've ever had is from Tony Di Maggios Pizza in San Jose, CA.

Here's a link to a copycat Stromboli recipe:

I worked on this sandwich for a while. They actually get their sausage from GFS. They add Fennel and crushed rosemary to it. The tomato sauce is supposed to be right out of the can, but i use some paste and add a little of the spices to it. I use my pizza crust formula for the bread. I'm still working on the bread, but the other is dead on. everyone should know the assembly and cooking methods. If anyone wants more info, feel free to ask!
