This makes me very interested in visiting Uzbekistan - can you imagine seeing breads such as this where you live? I have trouble finding anything I'm willing to eat when I am forced to buy bread at the supermarket - even their bakery or artisanal breads are lacking - you would never complain if at an Uzbeki market!

For all that we call bread the staff of life, we don't seem to treat it with much respect in the West, do we? When I visit Lithuania, I am always blown away by the dozens of types of rye bread alone that you find at the supermarket, of all places, and the farmers' markets are even more wonderful. Lithuanian breads are not as decorative as the Uzbeki, but they sure are good.

I have posted one recipe for an Uzbeki bread, Tashkent Non (Uzbeki Bread) . Awalde made the special stamp to create the lovely design, her photo is so inspiring,
