    I'm wondering: can masoor dal be used in place of yellow split pea? or even green split pea? this sounds so great that i'd like to try it right away, but i don't have yellow split pea in particular.

    Of course, though you'd then have a dish called "masoor dal" instead of "channa dal"... but the flavors will work equally well.

    The masoor dal cooks faster, so you will want to keep an eye on it and adjust the time as necessary. There is a difference in texture, too, but the flavors of all dals/split peas/lentils are pretty interchangeable in my opinion. Sounds delish!
