Help with recipe - Sausage balls

My sister and I are hosting a baby shower in a few weeks. We will be serving food from Great Britain. I have most of my recipes, but I still am lacking one that I can't find and verify as being authentic.

I am looking for a sausage ball-type recipe. I've seen where sometimes sausages have pretzel sticks stuck into them, but I'm not sure that is authentic. Is there a dish in Great Britain that would be similar to American sausage balls? Here, we would make something like this (Make-Ahead Bisquick Sausage Ball Appetizers) and call it sausage balls.

Is there another dish like one of these you would serve? Is the recipe I found with sausage on a pretzel stick authentic?

I should mention that my mother has Coeliac disease, so we're making every dish gluten-free to avoid cross-contamination of the food. I can buy premade gluten-free bread, pretzels and the like at the local grocery store, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don't know if sausage balls are authentic in the UK I suspect it is more of an American recipe (Bisquick is not a UK product). Using an authentic sausage like "white pudding" which is a white, pork based sausage (not a pudding at all) or another British sausage and (in your case gluten-free) flour in place of Bisquick would lend authenticity to the recipe.

I have not heard of sausage balls on sticks in the uk. But they do cook mini sausages with a thin strip of bacon wrapped around them, served in toothpicks - hot or cold

Pretzel sticks are only available in the UK as a speciality Eastern European food and not normally in British supermarkets, so I don't think a recipe using them could be considered authentically British.

Bisquick has been sold in British supermarkets for about 5 years now, but no one I know other than me ever buys it and it certainly hasn't reached "traditional" status.

Sausage rolls would be more traditional, e.g. Sausage Rolls. Or Baked Scotch Eggs with gluten-free breadcrumbs would be an option. Also, mini-sausages are sometimes served on their own on toothpicks with a dipping sauce (e.g. mustard).

sausage rolls are very English and vol au vents too. They are thick circles of pastry with a small inside circle cut out and baked, then the bit that came out of the middle is placed back on top when a filling has been put in. This could be a prawn cocktail...prawn mixed with mayo/tomato ketchup sauce or a mushroom fllling.. little sausage called cocktails sausages on sticks is common and depending how far you want to go back....in the 60s a cabbage would be speared with cocktail sticks that have cheese and pineapple on them. Cheese straws are typical..thats pastry with cheese mixed into it, then cut into strips and twisted and baked and then you can dip then into a dip. We now like houmos, taramasalata and potato salad.

I think you may be speaking of Scotch eggs (my fav) & I found a recipe that is gluten-free, so it would be fine for your Mom & I think tasty for all & since it's a baby shower, having an egg inside the sausage seems a cute connection (mom-to-be egg) hehe. Good luck [/b]
