I was just thinking of you in your winter home and wondered if you took the bells back with you. If you did are they using them?

You have a great memory K9. We left the bells in Oklahoma as we have a dog door in Minnesota. Abby remembered - the first time she had to go out, she rang the bells. However, they aren't very loud, so if I don't hear them, Zoey paws at my leg to let me know Abby wants out. The others never got the hang of the bells. Kate runs back and forth and then if I don't pay any attention, she barks at me. Happy Thanksgiving.

We'll probably never hear the bells again. My DH put a dog door in here in Oklahoma. We've had a dog door since they were all three puppies, except for Kate who was three when we got her. However, they all acted like they had never seen a dog door. We had to coax them through several times with a treat before they would start going through it. It's been almost a week now and Kate still thinks she needs permission. She runs back and forth until I tell her to go out. Go figure.

LOL - Kate will figure it out. A dog door is great. I'd love to have one but it would have to be so big we'd never keep the house heated without going broke.

You might be surprised how a big dog can squeeze thru a little doggie door.

When I lived in Phoenix in the 1990s I had a Miniature Schnauzer and a Pomeranian and a similar doggie door like this one that fits on an existing sliding door.

A friend of mine went on vacation and while she was away her Rottweiler/GSD mix and Doberman stayed with us. After a couple of hours at my house they saw one of my little dogs go through the doggie door and the big dogs were right behind her. It was a little door made for a 20lb dog but they soon learned they could easily fit through. It was shocking how easily they fit through.

You live in Canada and have bitter cold winters so a dog door of any size is not a good idea to save on heating bills. But it worked well in AZ where we only had freezing temps a few days a year.
