    I just wanted to say ColorGuardMom - you are spot on with your suggestions. I have liver issues myself, and one of the best things I found (that was suggested in several books I've read on detoxifying the body, and specifically the liver) is to eat ORGANIC FOODS. No preservatives, no additives, no artificial things. Whole foods, raw foods, lots of organic fruits and veggies. Grass fed or free range meats and poultry. Wild fish only. Free range eggs.

    The liver is the body's filter, so all toxins settle there. If your liver is not in it's best "working" condition, those toxins build up in the liver. This just adds to the problem. This really helped me alot and I had the liver enzyme blood work to prove it. Over a 6 month time frame, my numbers came down tremendously just from changing the type of food I eat. I also take milk thistle and artichoke leaves, both cleanse and repair the liver.

    On a side note, my gastro doc didn't seem concerned with my taking cholesterol lowering meds, which warn right on the label can cause liver damage or not to take if you have liver disease. I stopped taking them on my own as I didn't agree with his unconcern. But that's me - I'm bold that way icon_lol.gif

    Re: the cholesterol meds...I'm with you on that one. My mother used to be on them and my dad and I just couldn't understand why the doctors would allow her to continue when she was being treated for cirrhosis. My dad eventually tapered her off them, which worked out okay, because the numbers had come down on their own with a diet change. Who knows, maybe them keeping her on so many meds contributed to the rapid progression of cirrhosis and her death.

    I can't afford organic everything, but I do try to watch and I do make sure I clean all my produce in a vinegar and water solution/soak.

    I am heading back to the nutritionist on Monday. Not only do I have NASH (which has stabilized) but I now am battling IBS-C and Lactose Intolerance. Ugh. Time to learn some new dietary tricks to put in place with the lessons I've already learned. icon_smile.gif

    I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis of NAFLD
    My husband battled the desease for 2 years. He died last August. Last year he was in the hospital 10 times. He had the fluid drained (11 liters) several times and that brought him some relief. He ultimately bled out from ruptured vareses. He was 77 and rarely drank, but struggled with his weight. It's a commonly diagnosed desease these days. He was on a low sodium diet. Then a low potassium diet. His diet was so restricted that he finally quit eating.
    Sorry for the negative post. It's a rough desease.

    Hi - From all the posts I guess I'm in the right place - I was also diagnosed with a fatty liver disease at that time my doctor didnt seem to make much of it but as i continued to read up it does appear to be serious - He did place me on a statin drug and told me to lose weight and start excercising - But I can see I should be doing more - I just recently omitted white flour products from my diet and use whole grain products instead - I found most of the whole grain pasta pretty nasty however Barilla in the yellow box seems pretty good - I had much less problems with bread -
    During the course of my reading I came across websites selling what are most probably scam products that are supposed to help - I did come across a couple of articles that dill has a positive effect on liver disease - They recommended no particular product or had a website selling anything so I was very curious if anyone has heard that dill weed extract is helpful or not - The article said dillweed extract assists the liver in breaking down fat - If anyone has heard of this I would appreciate your knowledge or opinions on it - Thank you - ps I found the postings here very helpful and do appreciate all the time and information thats posted here -

    Just found this thread and appreciate all of the great tips on here. I was diagnosed last May with fatty liver, however my doctor refused to do a biopsy to see how bad it is. Honestly, it worries me. I have muscle tremors all the time, and I am sick to my stomach constantly. I never know which food will just randomly make me ill. So frustrating! I believe my fatty liver may be much worse than the doctor wants to address, but idk what to do about it. He just said lose weight. That's not exactly helpful! I've managed to lose about 18 pounds, but I can't lose anymore. It seems to be stuck. Nothing is working. I read a couple of fatty liver books and looked all over Google. Most of the foods I keep reading that I should eat make me have to run to the bathroom. I've been taking B6, Iron because I'm anemic, Cal-Mag-Zinc, Fish Oil, and Vit. E. Any ideas how to keep losing weight and actually feel better? Other symptoms I deal with is swelling of legs, feet, and hands and numbness in my fingers quite a bit. I don't take any medications at all. I used to have terrible headaches that I did take something for, but getting on the vitamin regimen has seemed to fix my headaches for now. I eat mostly beans and very little meat and no processed sugar or even fake sugar. What else can I do?

    i think its just us - it seems most of the others havent posted anything since last year except for one gal that wished all well -
    in all honesty my condition was found by accident and my doctor didnt make a big to do over it - just recently i started reading up and it is a big to do - according to some of the reading the main things to do is to lose weight and excerise - there was a third thing but i cant remember what it is now - i'll try to find the article -
    its so hard to figure out what additional things you should do - ive read articles about dill and omega 3 oils - i would stay away from any fish oils like salmon as they contain mercury even though some say they have processed it out i really dont believe -my symptoms are fatigue and nausea do i guess that maybe the beginning stage - if you have helpful hints i would be very apprecicative

    I started taking Vitamin E especially for my liver as well as fish oil to grease everything up icon_lol.gif I didn't even think about mercury, so I had better look into that! I had a time when I had nausea for awhile, but that has passed now. I started having muscle tremors about 4 years ago, but didn't go to the doctor until this year because we had no healthcare. Idk what to do really. I have started eating tons of fruits and veggies and whole grains and good proteins. I am hoping that my numbers will be much better when I get rechecked in October. Mine was so weird because I have absolutely nothing else wrong with me. Cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, everything just fine. Only anemic, and that wasn't all that bad either. I take Iron for that, but not every day. I just take it on the days I know I'm not going to eat much Iron foods. I stopped dairy almost completely. That stuff is hard to digest! I only eat skim mozzarella if I want cheese, and that is sufficient. No white flours for sure and I cut out sugars. I do take some Agave or Honey in my coffee. I read coffee is good for us, then I read it's bad. Who knows? I eat a lot of eggs since the liver books seem to think eggs are great for us. I'm taking B6 in hopes of helping my numbness in my fingers, but it hasn't helped yet. Doctor said it may take awhile, though. I take Cal-Mag-Zinc for the muscle tremors, and it has helped some. It's such a strange disease. I wish my doctor took it a little more seriously for sure.

    hi - thanks for the info - i was taking a vitamin called alive for women - at the time i started it in january i was feeling very tired and had to take naps - there was a slight improvement with that vitamin - however i have been feeling sick to stomach lately so i stopped taking it for the past week - i have come to the conclusion its not the vitamins making me feel sick to my stomach - i guess it will have to be trial and error to figure out what does - i do drink coffee every day - i have a small coffee maker that makes 4 or 5 cups, i make one pot in the morning and for the most part that is all the coffee i have for the day - i dont put sugar in my coffee but i do put 2% milk in it - i also like cold ceral usually cherrios but i use skim milk - i guess i will have to see if that bothers me or not - there was a website concerning the mercury in the salmon oil capsules but my computer crashed and i dont have the url anymore - the reading i did it sounded like flax seed oil might be a good replacement so i bought a bottle to try - lately i have to admit i just have not been feeling all that great and i am in the middle of moving from connecticut to delaware - i was down there signing leases and i just got back this morning - i also dont have health insurance and i dont have a job either - im hoping delaware may be more liberal in hiring old people than connecticut - thanks for answering - have a great day

    Hey just wanted an update from ColorGuard Mom, I was just diagnosed with NASH with stage 1 fibrosis. Tough pill to swallow, also freaked that I lost 10 lbs in first 2 weeks. Now slowing down but at least 4lbs more. Don't want to make it worse. Not eating any processed foods, all organic veggies.

    If you are losing that much weight, I hope that your medical professional is helping you know what to do. It sounds like a hard pill to swallow. I am sure there are support groups for people going through this difficulty. Please try to Google for it and get help if you need it.
