Crock Pot Green Beans & Bacon

Is there any water in this recipe? ...or do I just put all this stuff in the pot dry and turn it on?

I doubt there's any water, as it's closed and there will be little, if any, evaporation. The water in the beans and the bacon fat are probably all that's necessary. You could contact the contributor to double-check.

Two positive reviews, neither mentions needing to add water. Onions will exude liquid also.

Just asked the same question, did you make your's yet?! I am hoping to make mine tomorrow. Also wondering, is the bacon cooked at all?

    Thanks!

It worked very well dry, indeed! My only complaint is that the salt content was much higher than I prefer, but perhaps if sugar-cured bacon is used it could be less overpowering. I will try that next time.

I did put the bacon in raw, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with leftover cooked bacon, if that's what you have.

OTOH -- I'm not sure if I have ever actually *seen* leftover cooked bacon. icon_wink.gif

Thanks a bunch! I'll do as the recipe says then! I really appreciate your time! So grateful for your quick response!

Yeah, 'left over bacon' doesn't exist around here either! *g*

    Have a super Sunday! icon_smile.gif

When the beans were done, how much liquid was left in the pot. Just wondering. I want to try this method tool

The beans were moist, almost like they'd been steamed if I can describe it that way. Very little water, perhaps a tablespoon m/l, if I can venture a guess.

Thats not much liquid, did the bottom of your crock pot scorch at all? Guess I would be nervous about not having liquid in it. I thought that was the one thing of crock pot cooking is you needed some liquid. Have I been misinformed all these years?

According to the manufacturers, you need 1/2 cup liquid if you are cooking frozen things. But not for other things. I make this all the time, no scorching, I don't use a liner, and no added liquid. Turkey Meatballs With Cheese and Apple (Slow Cooker, Gluten-Free

Thats good to know. There again I was told you shouldn't put fully frozen food in a crock pot. I had heard if partially frozen not so bad but not frozen. I am sure confused on this.

    Hi Rit,

The moisture from the bacon was trapped and whatever water the beans had added to the moisture. My crock pot was not scorched but I do think it a good idea to be able to watch any appliance if you aren't sure about, at least the first time you make a recipe. That's what I would do.
