Yes Jac, I've only been here 3 weeks, but DH has been her 4 months and he's the one that started the dishwasher fiasco; they were supposed to fix it today but of course had a problem and didn't show up so now they will be here Tuesday. I think from the best I can understand, they are bringing me a new dishwasher - but not sure as it's often so HARD to understand what they are saying. The language is English but the accent and local dialect is sooo differant and hard to understand.

Hey I understand that because I have a really southern accent and people don't always understand me. They can always make fun, but not understand.

Tom came home from the VA around 11. The VA will call him with an appointment time for him to see a doctor. Around 11:15, he left for the day since we expected rain on Thursday and Friday. He got home around 5 having hurt his back. I gave him 2 of the pain patches, and 2 of my milder strength pain pills. He went right to bed and by Thursday he was in less pain. Yesterday he was fine and even went for a walk.
I have a very hard time understanding some of our neighbors who are from the south. I grew up in California and there is no California accent.

Laury, you have an accent, but you just don't pick up on it. I don't sound like southern to me, either, but to anyone else I do.

I have a lisp. My mother and I moved to New Rochelle, NY when I was 15. Some of my fellow students felt that the lisp was part of the California accent.

Well I will fess up why I have been working so hard. I needed a distraction, I got a phone call over a month ago from my older sister. She called to tell me that she had been tested and came back positive for breast cancer. It is a genetic form of cancer, our mom, grandma, aunty, great grandma all passed away from it, mom and aunty were very young, in their 30's. We both were tested for the mutated gene a few years back. She has it and I don't. And since she has the gene she has been to mammograms and MRI's since. They caught it very early, 3 tumors smaller than a pencil eraser each. The Dr ordered a double mastectomy and reconstruction. She went for her mastectomy 2 days ago.
I have been keeping myself busy because when I stop I just want to or I do just cry. Thursday was over an hour long crying session. My sister just turned 40, so she is older than our mom. It was caught so early she has a better chance it won't spread. In my mind it hurts because it is affecting the next generation. My sister has always been strong. She took on doing mothering things for me when our mom was sick. Our parents were separated years before she got sick. She was the one who gave me the bra talk and the monthly talk. We were always close growing up. I worry right now that if I talk to her I will just bawl my eyes out. I didn't get a chance to see her in the hospital as I was run down, and good thing too, I picked up the cold that has been making its rounds at work. I would have gotten her sick.
Can you believe her surgery was done as over-night, could have been done as day surgery?

tasb, I am so sorry and sending positive thoughts and prayers to you and to your sister. You need to stay well for her. Such a cruel disease. We have been very very lucky, only one paternal aunt had it and she was already in her 90s, but I have had so many friends who have not been so lucky.

Tasb, I am so sorry to hear this, I will be lifting both you and your sister up in my prayers. I have never been through a close family member with cancer, but I am sure it will happen sooner or later. Know that I am thinking of you and I don't blame you I'd keep busy too.

Thank you all for your prayers and positive thoughts. I got to talk to my sister last night, I was trying to call her house for a couple days. Turns out she ended up in the hospital a little longer. She was bleeding so they had to keep her in until it stopped. Good thing she decided to do her surgery overnight instead of day. As she didn't even realize it was happening. It was a nurse that found the bleeding.
She seems to be in good spirits, better than me. Even though she got home at 8 pm and I was talking to her at 8:30 she said she almost wanted to head to work already. Crazy woman, but she knows she has to take it easy. But she will probably head in for a visit sometime this week, as most of her co-workers are family. The whole family support in my home community is over-whelming. As we have had many battle cancer and many who are starting to battle it.

I forgot to add that she will be heading back in about a week to see the surgeon, too find out what kind of cancer she had and if she needs any more treatment. My fingers are crossed that she won't.

I will keep praying that she doesn't have cancer.
I have finished all exercising for the week and I managed eyedrops 5 out of 7 days.
Have a good weekend Bonnie G, Jacqueline, tasb and Joy.
