I agree with you Bonnie, it is sad to watch our parents become the children and we become the parent.
Laury I am not sure I knew you had taken care of your mother, anyone that takes care of parents have respect from me. I know how hard it is.
Well, I only lost 6 ozs. today. Better than nothing but need more. Maybe if I exercised it would help, but 6lbs in a week-end is pretty good, I think.

No Jackie, it's not pretty good - it's AWESOME, but be careful not to loose to fast and take it healthy. Me, I'm still loosing but oh so slooooow. Over the last week I just seemed to stay the same and then today lost 1 1/2# not a lot but hey - I'll take it.

It is very difficult to lose weight, I agree, Jacqueline! I think my having to take Prednisone daily and my limited exercising is what contributes to my problem. I am only 20 pounds for the least my doctor would want me to weigh. I weigh 150 as of today. My doctor said not to go under 130 pounds. I think that I would look better at 140 and my goal for my birthday this year is to be below 150 so the nurse doesn't even have to touch that bar on the scale.

You gals are doing great. Laury, you weigh less than me, this morning I was 163.4.
I haven't been exercising, now I have to get back into the routine of working again. My legs were just killing me today, thinking it is my shoes, they have way less padding in them then all the other shoes I have wore over the years. Thankfully they are falling apart so I have an excuse to buy new ones.
Then of course I came home and did some canning. I made Fruit Cocktail for the kids, I made them up in little 1/2 cup jars that are prefect for snacks. I did a total of 36 jars, took 2 1/2 hours. I am beat, but not ready to sleep. I still have lots of peaches to deal with, I bought 2-9 kg cases and used just over 1/2 a case. I know I want to freeze lots and probably make a dessert with them. Still have a couple more days to figure it out, they aren't all ripe yet.
I have been very upset lately too, got a call from my sister 2 weeks ago, she told me she has breast cancer. It runs in our family, and it is genetic, and she has the mutant gene (I don't), so we knew it could happen, just hoped it wouldn't. I talked to her yesterday, she has met with her surgeon and he wants to do a double mastectomy, and have a plastic surgeon do a reconstruction, and put her on hormones that will suppress this type of cancer from growing. They are very small tumors, thankfully she has been testing constantly for the past few years, so they were caught early, smaller than a pencil eraser. She wants to keep the one breast that doesn't have any tumors if at all possible, as she has had her ovaries removed. I have been very upset about it, but like always I keep a brave face. I want to commit to doing a 5 k walk to help fund-raise for Breast Cancer Research, but at the same time I really don't know what to do.

tasb - sending an angel your way with a special prayer and a warm hug for both your sister and you. I have a sister who has been battling breast CA for years and my Mom had it too so I can understand what you are going through. The good thing is it's caught early and there are so many treatments for it today but I also know that can't stop your worry. Just know we are all here for you.
Hugs Bonnie

A quick hello today; DH is off and going for a drive to the beach and some yummy Shark-n-Bake - not good for the diet, but hey we don't get it except maybe once every weeks and had oatmeal for breakfast so hoping that'll help balance it out

Hi all! Bonnie G, did you have fun yesterday? tasb, you will start exercising again when it is the right time for you to do it.
I did all my walks yesterday and today. I also have taken the responsibility of having Tom give me eye drops each day. The second part was a big thing for me because I didn't want to use them. Each of my doctors asks me to do "Just one thing for - part of your body." It always seems these little things add up to a huge thing.

Laury, I have been on eye drops for glaucoma since I was 25 years old. I detest them as much, if not more now than I did back then.
Wanted to drop by and tell you I will be MIA for a few days, Sarah, one of my young friends, is having a baby and I get to take care of her 3 year old, Andie, for a few days. Wish me luck. I take care of her all the time during the day or for a few hours but never over night and never for this long of a period. I am looking forward to it, yet dreading it, too.

Just checking in; had a really nice weekend. The beaches here are lovely and so warm. But DH had to change a tire and pulled his back so worried about that. We ended up taking it to a tire shop to fix it (which he should have done in the first place) and for $3, it was done. Now have to hope his back doesn't get any worse and he is OK>
As for me, I think I'm doing well. I'm afraid I didn't loose again this week as we went out to a wonderful resturant and splurged on Friday, but it was sooooo worth it and now with DH hurt will avoid the pull for this week so no swimming which is the excercise I enjoy the most.
Hope you all had a great weekend, and Laury - the eye drops may be something you hate, but congrads with making the decision to go with it.

Jac, I know that you will do great. Many years ago when my youngest nephew was born she had my mother fly out to babysit the older nephew. The older one, a few days before my mother came out, told me that he didn't remember Grandma and he wouldn't obey her. I calmed him down by agreeing to come over as soon as I got a call at work that his mother had gone to the hospital. Luckily, Alex was born on July 4. I was already there.
One thing I did was when we heard that Alex had been born, I went to the local store and bought cupcakes, ice cream and juice. I brought the next door neighbor children in and we had a Big Brother party. This was a party to celebrate that Zach was a big brother. He loved it!!!

Good to see everyone posting. I been slacking because of pain, I couldn't believe how sore I was Wednesday after canning. My legs and back were just bad, and they stayed sore for the rest of the week. Friday I finally had it, I pulled a chair into the kitchen and sat while the burgers cooked. I actually felt like crying because I don't ever remember having that much pain from doing routine things. Yes I consider canning a routine thing. They aren't too bad today, but I could feel it when I was doing up the last of the peaches today. I made 8 pints Peach Nectar, but yesterday and this morning I sat and cut up 3 industrial sized sheet pans of peaches for freezing. I also got around to sorting out both my freezers this weekend too. They were getting all messy. Not that they are much better right now, just a little neater.

Laury what a wonderful idea - the big brother party must have meant the world to him. What a great way to include the older child in the excitement.
tasb - your body must be trying to tell you something, listen to it. Try taking things a little slower, remember the work won't go away - it'll wait until you're able to get to it. That kind of pain is not worth the end results, at least in my opinion.
I had a wonderful weekend, my shipment from the States came in (now I have to get it all put away and organized but figured that could wait for today while DH is at work. Saturday we went to dinner at a wonderful Italian resturant. Then on Sunday DH drove us to the most lovely beach, we enjoyed fried shark sandwiches at a locally famous stand, (called Shark-n-Bake) walked on a beach with clean soft sand, took photos and then returned home where we had sandwiches and wine while watching the sunset from our balcony. The only negative thing was DH hurt his back changing a tire and now is still sore, hope that goes away soon!
Today, got on the scale and my weight has stayed the same, so didn't gain any weight from our weekend adventures so that's a good thing too.

tasb, I agree with Bonnie G. In general if your body is in a lot of pain, it is telling you to rest it and not push exercising.
You will be exercising and losing pounds soon but give yourself a break and don't push it.
I'm glad that you had a good day with your husband. I hope that his back stops hurting soon.
Today I finished my 3'rd day of exercising for the week. I hope tomorrow I can finish it. I go to the doctor Wednesday morning to find out how well I'm doing. I recently found some other groups for those who have invisible handicaps and I have enjoyed my time there.
