Have any of you heard of the Lifesaver bottle? It's something I'm looking into getting when I get the cash. My son introduced me to it. Not cheap, but well worth investing in, imo.

Don't know if this will help anyone today, being late to the thread, but if you look into UV purifiers, you'll find there are some that are as easy to carry as a fountain pen. That way, you're not lugging water with you. You're finding water and making it safe for you. Sterile water. Just a light weight filter to go with it and no bugs and you're not drinking mud water, but at a fraction of the weight you'd carry.

And a side note? You don't NEED 8-8 a day. Don't get hung up on that. What you DO need is what it will take for the duration of the event. If that's 72 hours, you're probably fine with a few liters. If it's longer than at.... Plan for it.

It's just not feasible to think of lugging around a large amount of water without a car, horse, travois, etc.

I don't think you're going to go wrong with that katadyn, Debbie. That said, I think the Steripen would take care of the cryptos. I think they have them in a larger size as well if you have a family to take care of, I'm pretty sure.

I think a combination of the two would be fantastic. Clear, clean water every time.

Redundancy is a fantastic thing. Especially regarding something as critical as water.
