    Has anyone seen this cookbook? By Cooks Illustrated? I borrowed it from the library. I may have to break down and buy one. Lots of good hints, good recipes, sensible cooking times.

    I really have not bought many cookbooks in recent years, this is my cookbook, but this one just might be worth it.

    I have not seen the book, but every recipe from Cooks Illustrated I've tried has been great.

    I just purchased the new one from America's Test Kitchen, Cook's Illustrated Cookbook. I can't wait to try their "Foolproof Pie Dough" made with vodka. I didn't know they had a slow-cooker book - but, as I said, everything I've tried from them is great.

    I had sworn off buying any new cook books, as my shelf is overflowing, but I couldn't resist this one. It's a real tome, but I'm sure I'll make many recipes from it.

    I do wish they had pictures, but I'm willing to sacrifice them for the quality recipes.

    Paperback would be nice too, as they are usually cheaper. This one was just a hair over $20, in hardback. If I had a Kindle, then I could save some money by getting the digital download. (Not that I want one.) I guess I could have used the kindle for PC software, but there is just something about digital that seems to me so transient, as well as being at risk of technical difficulties erasing it forever.

    I have a Kindle, but don't like looking at recipes on it. Also don't really want to bring into my kitchen.

    I bought this cookbook as well and enjoy it for the reasons mentioned above. Great recipes, sound advice and it has been tried and tested. Lots of potential there for great meals.

    I'm considering buying the digital version, just to keep all that kitchen mess off the book. That way I would print out the recipe I wanted to make and keep the book just for browsing.

    By the way, I made their version of coq au vin last night. It was divine! It did take 3 hours to make, however.

    Oops. I did go ahead and buy the digital version only to discover that Kindle for the PC does not allow me to print out a page. Good thing I didn't go on a buying spree.

    If anyone has an actual Kindle, I'd like to know if you CAN print from it.

    I have a Kindle but have no idea how one would print from it. In any event, my home wireless system refuses to recognize it and I need to find time to sit with the help desk on the phone.

    I was able to print by using the PrtScn button, then pasting into my word processor program. However, I had to change the layout to landscape, as it was too small for portrait. The quality was very poor, so that won't work as a way to get a page printed out on a regular basis.

    I guess I'll just have to live with drops of kitchen mess on my paper book pages. (Don't you hate that?)

    I like to be able to write on the pages, so I know if I liked the recipe or want to try something different with it next time, so paper is the way to go for me. I was so hoping to get rid of the excess on my bookshelf icon_sad.gif

    you can copy pages from your paper cookbook to use in the kitchen, or put plastic wrap over them while in use to avoid getting food on them.

    aww thanks, Red. I've kind of been into some other things, and not into my diet so much, but now have to start watching it again.

    Paula sent me an inlvite to some cooking game, and I replied and started browsing. and here I am icon_razz.gif

    I like my slow cooker in the summer for some things, baking potatoes and sweet potatoes without heating up the house. I can't cook outside so try to find ways to do it inside and keep as cool as possible, as also no central a/c.

    Some names have changed, and I'm glad to see you still here, my old friend.

    I noticed a couple of threads about the difference the cooking temps make in slow cookers. hehe still not standardized and have to just test a couple of simple things with the one you just got.. and a white potato would be a good tast food. How long does it take to bake the number of white potatoes that fit in your size slow cooker?
