Hi everyone! I'm here because we wound up with 24" of water in our home after Tropical Storm Lee dumped a ton of rain on Pennsylvania. It was the most despairing feeling that I have ever felt. We were moving things upstairs until the water was right at our doorstep and we still lost a lot of things, including all of the food in our refrigerator. It's really amazing how much stuff you forget about when you are under that kind of stress. I didn't even remember to grab a roll of toilet paper!
We are lucky enough to have a camper (which our family of 5 is currently living in until our house is finished being repaired) and I am now planning on compiling an emergency disaster kit to keep in it, just in case this would ever happen again. I've seen some really great ideas so far and I am going to take some of them to heart so we are ready next time.

I became interested in emergency food, when I was still living at home. I'm from a family of thirteen, my mother had to make due with what she had on hand. I remember she, had flour, rice, sugar, eggs, potatoes, the list goes on, but she made due. Its hard when you have one parent doing what two would do. I'm new here and was canning the forums and came to this site. I had many emeregency in my life. I was homeless for a time, and used my up bring to help me to servire. I made homemade jam, canned peaches, dryed meat, fruit, to be used later! (Do your research)! check out your library! The last thing I want you to check out is (Emergency Food) by Jennifer Standing.
