As you know, all digital cameras can -- under certain circumstances -- have problems with white balance. Most annoying is that blue cast on a white plate, for example.
I came across a very good article and thought I'd post the link here (see below).
Depending on your type of camera, you can adjust for white balance. I do not follow everything in this article, and right now I don't know my new camera well at all, so ... it's going to be a learning curve again ...

Please read this if you are a first-time photo poster. It really is important:
Purpose of this forum -To share your photos of Food.com recipes.
(This does NOT mean you can't post an occasional photo of food with no specific recipe (i.e. leftovers 're-created', food enjoyed at a special event, lovely fresh produce). We all sometimes make something not on Food.com, take a lovely picture, and want to share it. Those are welcome, but should really only be posted "now and then").
In general, therefore, food photos posted should be of Food.com recipes. And don't forget to include the recipe number or link so we can enjoy it too!!!
IMPORTANT: As stated on the photo submission page: "We do not accept photos copied from another website or previously published in a book, magazine, etc..
"Posting photos you do not own the copyright to is against the law, and you could be held liable for theft. We also reject photos for including watermarks, trademarked products, unauthorized advertising, etc."
This copyright policy applies to the Photo Forum as well.
(Zurie on Sept 26, 2010: We do not reject photos with watermarks, provided it is unobtrusive. Food.com does not like watermarks, but some members feel it is the only way to protect their photos from being "stolen" by other sites).
THE "MISSION STATEMENT" OF THE PHOTO FORUM:
- To offer comments and/or suggestions on:
1) the preparation and presentation of the recipe
2) the lighting, props, and general features of the photograph
3) and the use of editing software to improve or enhance the photo.
4) And naturally: to have a really good time, and to enjoy sharing the dish you made! No-one is too inexperienced and no photo unacceptable (except under the circumstances stated above).
5) We encourage members new to food photography to please post here! Ask for help! The hosts are not photography experts, but everyone on this forum is helpful!
- All suggestions about a photo should be polite and friendly in nature. It is always nice if you can also add some words of encouragement or point out features you like. However, should someone suggest another angle, dish, background, different lighting, etc. etc. it should not be taken as anything but helpful advice. We all want to learn more, and to take better and better photos!
- Please, no editing of anyone's photos unless they specifically ask for help with editing. Indicate this when you post your photo by adding "C & E welcome" (comments and editing welcome).
This means: you would like help cropping, adjusting colors, adjusting brightness or contrast, or altering the photo in some way. This will help avoid confusion on who would like assistance with editing and who would not.
- If you are interested in sharing your photos but would prefer they not be critiqued by others, please include FYVP (for your viewing pleasure).
- If you see "FYVP" on a thread, feel free to offer your positive comments but please refrain from offering suggestions. We felt this might be helpful since some people enjoy sharing their photos for fun while others are using the forum to learn how to improve their photos. BOTH groups of photographers are welcome!!!
Games and Swaps:
The Hosts keep a list, called The Naughty List *sticky*, of delinquent players with outstanding tags/commitments. Please check the list for your name before playing in a comitted tag or swap event. In order, to redeem your status for commitments/tags, you will need to complete any outstanding tags/commitments before playing again. Once your photos/reviews are public, you will be re-instated to join us in having fun in the Photo Forum Events.
Please note: The photo posted for Cooking Photo Forum Tags/Swaps/Games must be new for this event or new for another CURRENT tag/swap game, not just from your photo files.
(As with all forums, it is not for advertising businesses or other websites. If you wish to advertise on Food.com, please contact them about their rates).
