That time of year again!!

Well, I finally have started my tomato seeds. SO excited to taste a home grown tomato. This year I am planting also a new heirloom carrot called, Chantenay, anyone ever grown it? I did manage to get two long rows of potatoes in too. We had such a nice warm spell there for awhile, but things are more norma, cooler temps. I Don't think we will get much fruit this season due to so many frosts and freezes when my trees where in flower. I just hope enough fruit for a good sour cherry pie. How are all your gardens doing? I just hope it warms up more. Just loved the warm weahter we had and want it back!!

You are right, it has been one weird spring! First, we had such warm temps in March so everything started blooming. Then things got back to "normal" (highs in the 60s) so now we are gradually warming up again. We had a light frost last week but that should be the end of it (the swallows are back, so no more freezing after that).
We have our garden tilled and ready to go, but I didn't start anything from seed this year. I don't have the room or enough heat/light to be successful. I am buying heirlooms only from a local grower that I trust. Tomatoes only.
Oh, and saw our first hummingbirds of the year this past weekend, so warm air can't be far behind!

I have green tomatoes on one potted plant and flowers on the others,We need to get our tomatoes in REALLY early here (Zone Eight) because By midsummer the plants just fry in the 100+ heat and never recover. Direct seeded chiles in the garden, have spotty germination on the poblanos but lots of pasilla seedlings. Eating lettuce, beet, and broccoli thinnings, as well as some baby carrots that overwintered, looking forward to harvesting the garlic in a few weeks to make room for more greens and maybe some squash. Harvested oregano yesterday, drying 10 bunches as well as three trays going in the dehydrator.
