    hi coupla questions

    hi im putting mr pickys momsrecipes on and shes czech, here is her cooklibbies czech recipes the cresents does anyone know what they are called ?
    shes also got an applecoffee cake that the instructions arent the clearest does any on find it familar ?
    and shes got a dumpling recipe that is kinda different i havent put it on because i dont know how to write it up this is what im working with
    heat to boiling
    2 c milk
    1 T salt
    2 T butter
    add enough flour to make a stiff dough
    let cool:
    add 3 egg yolks
    1 whole egg
    enough flour to make a stiff dough
    let stand a few minutes than roll out and cook 20 minutes
    can anyone help me with this?

    Hi Dienia, I cannot help you with the dumplings. The coffee cake sounds like something my mother made - she never used a recipe, just put ingredients in the bowl until it looked right - or perhaps she had memorized it. it's this one, I think, Libbie's Czech Apple Coffeecake

    It's more like a batter bread - the dough will be quite soft. You don't use a lot of yeast in relation to the amount of flour, so it will take about 2 hrs to rise. I think you will need more apples - you need to put the apples on quite close to one another to cover the top, because they will separate as the dough rises between them. I made something like this a few years ago while visiting my dad and that was his complaint - not enough apples on top.

    In terms of the directions, I'd change step 2:
    put in mixing bowl with the 2 cups water, 1/2 c sugar, salt, egg, shortening a little lemon flavoring 6 cups flour sifted. and beat until a soft dough forms.

    Step 7 - the melted shortening seems to be used all in the dough - so you need more here. I myself would use butter on top (and in the dough itself), it would taste better. Only butter on top. I think you would need about 1/2 cup of melted butter - 1/4 cup on each of the pans.

    Step 8 - I would add that you will need enough sliced apples to cover the top of the dough closely.

    I would bake at 350 deg - it will probably need somewhere around 45 minutes at a guess. 425 seems too high.

    thank you , i knew that recipe was off but didnt know why , i will change it .its like me making biscuits or pancakes ,i make them so much i dont needa recipe anymore. and mr pickys mom is 97 she doesnt remember anything any more and he is NO help . i think the dumpling recipe is just bare bones to remember, but alot of things are left out

    I know what you mean. When mr. grumpy's mom was alive I asked her to wait until i got back before making a specific recipe. We got home and she had it done. I said, ok, just talk me through it. She said well peel a 10 lb bag of potatoes. I said are you sure it isn't 5 lbs, and yes it was 5 lbs. And off we went and I still cannot get it right......

    that seems about right at my my house too... so anoying thanks for the help onthe apple cake this is completely different from how we cookd at home . i know enough to know something is mr picky said just make the recipe , i said thats alot of ingredients to give to dog lol
