    Rubber chicken cake

    OK - got your attention icon_biggrin.gif I need to bake a cake with a rubber chicken inside. I was hoping your baking knowledge would be able to help me decide on the best method
    a) bake cake - cool - remove centre - insert chicken - re- assemble and ice
    b) bake cake as normal with chicken in place and cross fingers
    c) bake cake at a very low temp for a very long time to ensure chicken is intact

    I would prefer to bake with chicken to ensure the cake looks like a cake - but don't want melted chook cake either icon_rolleyes.gif

    This rubber chicken has some history turning up in unusual places - and its my friends birthday this weekend...........
    Any assistance will be helpful

    Well! My experience with inserts is limited to little baby dolls in a king cake. I would worry about melting. I am thinking that maybe you make a base slab, put the chicken on top, and then mound up whipping cream or something like that over it. You could then cut strips of cake and make a dome type of thing, or perhaps use some sort of edible decorations on the whipped cream.

    How big is the chicken? Knowing the size might help with figuring out a clever way to incorporate it.

    Hi - the chicken is about 50cm long - but is very floppy and pliable - so rollling it up won't be a problem.

    The whipped cream / lots of soft icing will be an issue as it is going to be transported via public transport (don't know what trains are like in your area - but down here they leave a lot to be desired!)

    What ever method I will endeavour to get a before and after photo - I may even post a rubber chicken cake recipe icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

    Okay, would it work to take the already baked cake and cut out a tube-shaped hole where you want the chicken inserted, using an empty can or drinking glass as your cutter? I would then wrap your chicken in plastic wrap and insert it into the hole. Seal up the hole with part of the removed cake and then frost over it. When you frost the cake you might want to mark the location of the chicken with a decoration of some sort so that when you cut it you can make sure that your friend gets that piece.
