I need ideas for meals to make for families who have bereavements, new babies, illness, etc. I would like to keep ingredients around for several things so that I can deliver a meal without going to the store.

I know there is the classic casserole dishes which are fine. But me personally, if I was on the receiving end, I would like something a bit different. One thing I tend to stay away from is soup based casseroles. Not the healthiest, and not always well liked. It is just something I wouldn't send to a friend or neighbor (IMO)

Now, there is always the old standby meals:

    Lasagna
    Baked Ziti
    Turkey Tettrazinni

But I would appreciate getting a meatloaf with a bowl of mashed potatoes and a salad

I happen to enjoy beef stew or even a chicken version

Mac and cheese, but be creative, add some smoky cheese, bacon, chicken and broccoli and make it a full meal.

Chicken and dumplings are a favorite of mine. I make sure to add carrots and celery in mine for a few vegetables

Roasted veggies are great served with a roast chicken and not difficult.

I love to take a baked ham. It will give them plenty of meals, easy to reheat and great for sandwiches too. You could add a nice dish of scalloped potatoes for a nice meal.

Stuffed shells are great, but try something different. Try a chicken and cheese filling or a sausage stuffing with a cheese sauce vs a red sauce.

A pork loin cooked in the crock is so tender and can be made with a simple creamy sauce. You can also add onion to the sauce. Make some roasted vegetables for an easy dish and something they can easily reheat.

And all of the ingredients are pretty easy and usually ones I keep on hand.

G'day I have done many meals for a variety of situations

    Some hints, tips, suggestions

Stay away from cream/dairy type soups and casseroles

I always look for simple, economical and versatile dishes

I bulk make, freeze in containers, label and provide how to defrost of cook...I do costing per serve and is remarkable what one can do generously but economically and frugal too icon_smile.gif

    Good Luck!

When people are thinking (for whatever reason) even the simpliest of things become difficult; that's why I cook the pasta al dente..freeze in baggies so can just be reheated simple with the meal

I usually include bread rolls or bread sticks etc...

Hope some or any of this helps too

if you need any recipes just yell out too
