Spinning off of the super-popular game many of you have been playing for years, Ready, Set, Cook, we've teamed up with Simply Potatoes® to bring you
Ready, Set, Cook! Special Edition. And this time, thanks to our sponsor, the game comes with a pretty awesome grand prize: $2,000!
Before we go any further, a shout out needs to be made to our resident contest maven
Susie D for running this fantastic contest for so long and giving us inspiration to try it ourselves!
The general premise for the game is still the same – with a bit of a twist. We invite you to show off your culinary creativity by submitting an original recipe that features one Simply Potatoes® product and four other official contest ingredients. Create a main dish, appetizer, side dish or more, and add in any other ingredients you choose!
The five highest-rated recipes will become semi-finalists and will be shared with a guest judge, professional chef and blogger Kristy Bernardo of the
The Wicked Noodle. She’s going to pick a grand prize winning recipe after she tests them out herself! What’s the submitter of the winning recipe get?
$2,000 and their recipe featured in a Simply Potatoes® advertisement in
Food Network Magazine!
There’s a bonus prize, too. This special edition of the contest includes a People’s Choice prize of
$750 that goes to the recipe with the highest overall rating! (More on all that below.)

Official Contest Ingredients
We’ve provided a list of official contest ingredients. Your original recipe submission must include one of three Simply Potatoes® products and four more contest ingredients for a total of five required ingredients.
Your entry must include 1 of these:
Simply Potatoes® Shredded Hashbrowns
Simply Potatoes® Diced Potatoes with Onions
Simply Potatoes® Traditional Mashed Potatoes
And your entry must include 4 of these:
Bacon
Fresh or Frozen Shrimp
Eggs
Fresh or Frozen Spinach
Fresh Carrots
Sun-Dried Tomatoes
Corn
Green Onions
Red Bell Peppers
Cilantro
Chicken Broth
Alfredo Sauce
Goat Cheese
Taco Seasoning
Cumin
Black Beans
White Wine Vinegar
Along with the five required contest ingredients, you may use as many other ingredients as you like. However, the five contest ingredients you use must be essential to the dish – meaning that if you took any one of them away, it would alter the dish and make it something different. Layman’s terms: Don’t use one of your five ingredients as a garnish!
How to Enter
Please use the “Submit Your Recipe” link on our
official contest page. Or click
HERE to enter your recipe into the contest. DO NOT submit your entry via our regular recipe submission form.
When entering your recipe, please add this copy to the beginning of your recipe description: “Ready, Set, Cook! Special Edition Contest Entry.” This helps to clearly delineate contest recipes from regular recipes. We will also add this line to all contest entries if people forget.
How Highest-Rated Recipes Will Be Determined
We are using a points-based system to determine the highest-rated recipes. Points will be assigned to every recipe submitted based on the ratings it receives from the community. Only review that include a star rating will determine points. All recipes will start with 0 points. Additional points will be determined using the scale below:
For each 5 star review, 2 points will be added to a recipe’s score.
For each 4 star review, 1 point will be added to the score.
For each 3 star review, 0 points will be added to the score.
For each 2 star review, 1 point will be subtracted from the score.
For each 1 star review, 2 points will be subtracted from the score.
At the end of the contest, the recipe with the highest score will be declared the Peoples' Choice winner.
NOTE: The grand prize winning recipe cannot also be the People’s Choice winner. In the event that the grand prize winner is also the highest-rated recipe, the second highest-rated recipe will be awarded the People’s Choices prize. Just trying to spread the love!
Official Rules
These are just some of the basics:

Entrants can submit up to three recipes. Any additional recipes entered will be removed and/or disqualified.
