50th birthday party

I am hoping for some great ideas or pictures for a 50th birthday party. My mom is fixing to have her 50th. My brother & I are throwing it for her. We are narrowing down the invites, they are basically black & white. We do have one that has a touch of green. We are thinking we are wanting a mainly black & white. We would like elegant, with a touch of humor. We are thinking to do 1960 food, drinks and candies. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like so much fun. When my mom turned 50, we had a 50's themed party and it was a huge hit.

I did a google search on 1960's era food, and found I had better luck ideas for menu ideas when I google'd 'Mad Men' party ideas. But from the ideas I got, here are some food.com recipes to try. Some I took some basic ideas and tried to find something a little bit more gourmet/fancy.

Since you were wanting to add some humor, I though you could serve Tang and have astronaut ice cream available. I've seen the astronaut ice cream in novelty shops, such as Fuego or amazon.com.

More like a buffett. We are getting really excited and loving all these comments. We are going to do a tang punch that we found and I'm gonna find out what austronaut (sp?) ice cream is..

I also thought I'd toss out, my dad died from alcoholism, so we don't drink and won't be serving any drinks. Thought I'd save someone some time. Thanks for the time that everyone is taking to help us out!!
