I have a stuffing recipe I have been using for several years. This year, I used a new 6Qt. oval crockpot with a plastic liner in the crockpot.
Original recipe calls for 12-14 cups of cubed bread, 2 eggs, 2cups of onions, 2 cups of celery, 1 can of chicken broth.
So I changed it. I had 16 cups of bread cubes, 3 medium eggs, 4 cups of onion, 4 cups of celery, 1 can of chicken broth and a can of Cream of Chicken Soup.
Calls for cooking on HI for 1 hr, then LOW for 4-6 hrs.
At the end of 4 hrs LOW, sides of stuffing were
black/burning.
Is the 1 hr on HI for setting the eggs? Can I safely cut down that time to 1/2 hr? Is the liner a help or hinderence?

I use the High setting at the start just to kick-start the cook. But...I'm impatient and really have no business using a slow cooker (some would say).
It could be that the High setting for 1 hour helps move the stuffing more quickly through the danger zone of 40 F to 140F which may have to do with the eggs.
But, dry bread is an insulator and if the bread is not completely wet, this could contribute to the burning.
I think the liner is a help, not a hindrance.
So...try using the high setting for 1/2 hour and maybe pre-heat the liquids before adding.

Thanks. Sorry for the delay, I'm having internet connection problems.
I'll give it a try with more chicken stock too.
Preheating the liquid and 1/2 hr at HI.
