    Cuisinart PSC-350 3-1/2-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker-A Rev

    I use my slow cooker several times a week and killed my Hamilton Beach three in one icon_cry.gif The good news is it gave me an opportunity to get a new one. I ordered the Cuisinart 3 1/2 quart with three cooking modes: High/Low/Simmer in addition to Warm. The simmer is what roped me in, so excited to be able to cook at a lower heat (180 degrees). It also has a 24 hour digital timer for long cooking times. Will post a review after I test drive it.

    We look forward to the review of the new cooker.
    There's a market out there for the 3-in-1 bowls. I broke the 4 qt bowl and have looked around quite a bit for a replacement. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

    The 4 quart is the main sized bowl I used and the main reason I went with the 3 1/2 quart size this time. I did give incorrect info in my original post...simmer is 185 degrees, not 180.

    what are some of your favorite crockpot dishes. More people cruse around these waters than you'd think and we can give each other ideas about recipes to try.

    Hi there,
    Hope the new cooker is working out--it sounds great! I have a quick question about the temperatures. If simmer is 185*F, what are the high and low temperatures? I live in Europe and all three of my slow cookers don't go beyond 205*F.

    I don't know what 16Paws' new crockpot cooks at on low or high, but mine is 180*F on low and 240*F on high and that's VERY approximate. I measured it with materials in my pot, but that's very iffy. I do know that crock pot manufacturers produce pots that cook at various temperatures. The newer Rivals are well "rumoured" for cooking hot.

    The manual that came with the slow cooker gives these temps for the different settings: High-212F, Low-200F, Simmer-185F and Warm-165F. I believe the older US slow cookers did cook on lower temps, but concerns about food safety led to newer ones cooking on higher temps.

    Not sure about this slow cooker yet. At 6 a.m. I put a pound of soaked beans, some left over smoked ribs, seasoning and 7 cups of water in it and set it for simmer. Checked on it around 10 a.m. and nothing much was going on. Set it on high to kick start it. It never did come to a simmer point on high, but when I checked the beans around 3 they were only a bit undercooked. To be safe I transferred everything to a Dutch oven to finish on the stove. I think I may have filled it too full as there was only about an inch of free space. Also, this cooker definitely cooks at lower temps than I am used to. I am going to give it another try with a smaller amount of food before I pass judgement.

    Sounds like it may take a while to get used to it. I have cooked with the pot almost full, but the best performance is 1/2 to 2/3 full (so they say).

    Keep at it and keep us posted.

    Updated review. I have used this several times now for various meat-based recipes. I LOVE it. It cooks evenly and does not overcook food giving it that "crockpot" taste. I'm thinking perhaps the beans I used in my initial evaluation were older or perhaps I did not soak them long enough. I take back any negative comments. icon_wink.gif

    That's very good to know. With just two of us, a smaller crock makes sense. I still use my ancient Rival, but the lid cracked and I use a piece of foil to cover it. I do have a 5 qt one, but use that only when making a lot of something, which is not that often.

    I know exactly what you mean. It is just DH and myself and this 3 1/2 quart is the perfect size for everyday. I also have a 5 quart for family gatherings.
